Jon Naberezny, 91, passed away at The Inn at Christine Valley on June 5, 2013.
Jon was born on Oct. 8, 1921, in Youngstown, Ohio a son of Michael and Anastasia Naberezny and was a lifelong area resident.
He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Youngstown College and a Master of Fine Arts from Iowa State University.
He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army.
A pillar of the vibrant Youngstown arts scene, “Nab” was a well known artist who served as a Professor in the Art Department at Youngstown State University until 1992. . Upon retirement, Jon gave his time to train the Docents at the Butler Institute of American Art for many years.
His works have been featured in galleries throughout the United States and several of his works are maintained within the permanent collection at the Butler Institute.
Jon was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Rose “Honey” Naberezny and daughter, Jaqueline Naberezny Bowers.
Jon is lovingly remembered by his children, Jon (Jodie) Naberezny, Janet (Daniel) Fraile and Jayme Naberezny, all of New York City.
He is also survived by three grandchildren, Elvis Fraile, Emilia Naberezny and Rosie Naberezny, all of New York City.
He will also be missed by his three sisters, Kay Terlecky of Cincinnati, Ohio, Liz George of Poland, Ohio and Esther Naberezny.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Nicholas Naberezny and two sisters, Mary Brack and Ann Manser.
The visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
There will be a funeral service at 10 a.m. Monday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman, Ohio
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Davis Family YMCA Arts and Humanities Program which offers Art classes for youth and families. The address for donations is 45 McClurg Road, Boardman, OH 44512.
A memorial art show in Jon’s name will be partially funded by memorial donations and will be held at the Davis YMCA during the month of October.
