Here’s what I could quickly lay my hands on. It’s an obit for Gust that was on an Emmons County, ND genealogy web site some years ago.

Gust E. Wenning

Birth: 24 Feb 1910, Linton, Emmons County, North Dakota
Death: 4 Jan 1997, Spokane Washington

Gust was born on Feb 24, 1910 at Linton, a son of John and Katharina (Fauth) Wenning. In 1936, Mr. Wenning moved from this area to Washington State for employment with the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1974 he retired after 38 years of service, the last 12 as section foreman in Spokane. One of his final jobs involved changes to the UP’s “Old Yard” adjacent to Expo ’74 to accommodate the steam locomotive 8444.

In 1937 he returned to North Dakota to marry Bertha Weber at Jamestown. The couple lived in Walla Walla, Farmington, and Spokane, WA. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct 16, 1987. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, bowling, working for his church, friends and family. In 1977, as a result of illness, he was confined to a wheelchair. He spent the last years of his life at Manor Care Convalescent Home in Spokane. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Spokane.
