McCONNELSVILLE: Bernice Louine W. Hutchins, 92, of McConnelsville, Ohio passed away April 9, 2013 at Highland Oaks Health Center, McConnelsville, OH.

Born on March 25, 1921 in Manchester Township, Morgan County, she was the first born of the late Clarence B. and Concella Blanche (Smith) Willey.
She was a 1939 graduate of Manchester Rural High School, and thereafter worked and lived at Hill's Store in Reinersville, Ohio.
She married USN submariner Joseph R. Hutchins of Reinersville on July 12, 1945 in Malta, OHIO while he was on 6-wk home leave from the Pacific war theater.
They moved about the USA while Joseph pursued his Navy career, and traveled together to Europe, Israel, and South America while Joseph was with the US State Department 1964-1976.
They were assigned to the US Embassy in Canberra, Australia 1965-1969, which provided them a wealth of fond experiences and memories.
Their love for travel continued in retirement.
Bernice enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, preserving, and accounting.
She was known for her delicious pies.

She was an avid genealogist and a life member of several county and state genealogical and historical societies.

She and Joseph were boosters of the Manchester Rural High School reunions and annual banquets.

Louine was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in McConnelsville.
She and Joseph were long-time volunteers at both Genesis Health Good Samaritan Hospital and Mark Rest Center, now Highland Oaks Health Center.

Surviving are her son, Lloyd J. (Ellen) of Groton, CT; and three grandsons, Edward L. (Alicia) of Raleigh, N.C., Eric M. of Rockville, Md., and Allan J. of Groton, CT; one great-grandson, Owen of Raleigh; brothers, Gerald A. Willey of Marietta, Ohio and Verle E. Willey of Orange Park, FL; nephew, Stephen L. Willey of Columbus, Ohio and niece, Suzanne Singleton or Orange Park, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Glenna A. Willey.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Miller-Huck Funeral Home, McConnelsville, OH.
Calling hours will be from 5 pm to 8:30 pm Friday April 12.
The funeral service will be at 11 am on Saturday April 13 at the funeral home.
Interment will be at the Sharon Cemetery, Sharon, OH.

The family wants to thank the staff, nurses and doctors at Highland Oaks Health Center for the excellent care and comfort they provided Louine over the past three years.
The family also wants to thank Louine's friends, neighbors and relatives who visited and helped her immensely during her widowhood.
