Hi Shirley & All,
You're welcome. I understand that the first born son can be named after either the father or grandfather depending on the country of origin of the family. Elizabeth must have lived in Guernsey Co. when they were married probably. I do agree with you that marriages 80% of the time occurred in the county of the bride, but it's not an absolute. It's certainly something to check into though. Yep, he did inherit a family when he married Elizabeth, but I can't help but thinking that he also had a previous marriage since he was probably older than Eliz.
In the 1860 census, Eliz. was in Harrison, Muskingum, Ohio, widowed, and 54 yrs. old. Also, she was born in Maryland according to what she told the census taker. This may be where Maryland comes into the family picture. With her age, I'm only guessing, but she may have died in Muskingum Co. before the 1870 census. I'm wondering if she was buried there in that township, and if we find her, that maybe she was buried next to Michael and we will find his real name as well.
I still have lots to do yet, and we have not been back to the library for awhile to check for Hambler's/Hamlin's and to trace the family like we did with Michael Blackson through the townships. We may do that one day this Fall.
The baby girl Elizabeth was 14 yrs old in the 1860 census. I would assume that by 1870 she was married. Has anyone checked for Elizbeth Blackson where her children were settled, maybe living with one of them?

I think you will find this information below interesting that I found:
"Hamblin Coat of Arms and Name History
Spelling variations of this family name include: Hamelin, Hamelyn, Hamelen, Hamelyng, Hamelyne and others.
First found in Gloucestershire where they were seated from very early times and were granted lands by Duke William of Normandy, their liege Lord, for their distinguished assistance at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 A.D. Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: James Hamlin, who came to Barnstable, MA in 1639; James, Joyce, Margaret, Phillip, Hamlin, who all settled in Virginia in 1653; Ezekial Hamlin, who was on record in Boston in 1655."

This is what I have on them in Ohio so far:
Search on Ancestry.com with just the surname Hamler between the years of 1750-1850 results below that would be of importance to this family perhaps.

There were no results at all for the surname, Hambler, in Maryland on the site using the same parameters as with the Hamler surname. [But, the library may have more in their books.]
