Also, check with the Local History and Genealogy Center of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library (www.wtcpl.org or 330-399-8807).
There are no Probate Records of any kind for Peter Cole in Trumbull Co. OH nor is there any tombstone for him listed in the Trumbull County Cemetery Tombstone Book. However a Margaret Cole daughter of Peter Cole is listed in the 1882 History of Trumbull and Mahoning Counties by Williams available on Ancestry. She married Henry Taylor and is buried in Newton Falls East Cemetery. See Find a Grave. There is a Peter Cole who died in 1846 who has an estate record in Pickaway Co. OH. Also a Harmon Cole buried in Kinsman Presbyterian Cemetery dates on 1802 to 1856.

Thank you...

Family records has it that William Bedell & Family moved to Ohio in 1836. I suspect, since the Bedell's and Jordan's are related by marriage, they moved about the same time. Thus, this is why they didn't show in the 1830 Census. Can't explain the 1840 Census though, unless my information (1836) is wrong.

That was very kind of you and appreciated. It's unfortunate that my surviving aunt (Peter Opincar's daughter) never got into the family history so can't help very much. I can understand now how a census taker could write down how names sounded from not-so-clear English as it didn't make much difference at the time since they really only wanted a count.

You have provided more information in a short time than I have been able to discover over the past year or so, so again, thank you.

Hi Victor

You're very welcome

Keep in mind that Helena had not been in the US very long and she was the informant for the Death Certificate which was written by an American... this is how names changed... no different than Elena becoming Helena.. I happened to be in Girard today on business and stopped at the Liberty Union Cememery. This cemetery is owned by the City of Girard, then went to the City Hall but records prior to 1933 burned in a fire so they could not tell me where his grave was located. They left a message for the guys who cut the grass to see if they recalled seeing his grave.

Robert

I was born in Youngstown with family roots in Girard. My father was adopted by Peter Opincar after a re-marriage to Helen (Elena) Avon (or Evon, or Ivan). Her first husband died in about 1930 and his name (Avon or Ivan or Evon) got lost in the records. And, of course, there are no surviving relatives with the information> I think he's buried in the Girard cemetery. Can anyone in Girard help with this as I am in California?
