Re: William & Norah FRANCIS Elk City, Ok. 1926

I am not a descendant of Norah L. (Hussey) Francis, but she is my g-great aunt. Her brother, Lloyd Elijah Hussey married Hallie B. Jones. They are my great grandparents. They had identical twin daughters: Mary Christene (Hussey) Canaday and Frances Estelle (Hussey)Silvius, my grandmother. My mother told me about her Aunt Norah many times - she still has books that Aunt Norah gave her as a child - and those stories enriched all our lives. Did Aunt Anna Hussey live with Aunt Norah while growing up? I'll have to ask Mother - I believe that is correct. I remember visiting Aunt Anna in Kansas City. I thought that was a grand life - to live right downtown - I believe it was the Plaza, though it was like a downtown area to me at age 9 or 10. We went to a cafe for lunch - very shiek, I thought - to have lunch in a cafe! Anyway, I have information back many generations on the Hussey side. Am trying to find information on Elizabeth McGill, Robert McQuown, and Annie Elizabeth Blackart. If you have anything, please let me know. My email is paige1ramsey@hotmail.com. Hope to meet you some day, cousin!

I know this post is a couple of years old, but thought I would try anyway. I am not certain of the time frame of the picture you have, but there was a Laurine Richerson who was the daughter of Harvey J. Richerson (1894-1951)and Laura Hill (1899-1934)both buried at Sayre-Doxey Cemetery. Harvey is the son of James R. "Jim" Richerson and Alice Holden. I am trying to prove that Alice's father, Thomas Jefferson "TJ" Holden is the same TJ Holden who is my ggg uncle and was earlier in Smith County, TX (1850)and then Wise County, TX (1870).

Sheryl McNeely Shaw

I am trying to document the marriage of my grandparents:

Nathanial John Kochendarfer (he has also gone by John Nathanial Kochendorfer) b. 23 Feb 1867 in Butler, Butler, Ohio. And Carrie Etta Mize (Polk was first marriage surname) b. 17 Aug 1889 in Bonham, Fannin, Texas.

Marriage around 1910 in Texola, Beckham, Oklahoma. Carrie came into the marriage with her daughter, Jewel Polk. The marriage took place after the 1910 Census.

1910 Census - Texola, Beckham, Oklahoma
GGma Carrie (Mize) Polk is listed as widowed, living with her daughter, Jewel and her Aunt, (Parmelia) Jane (Phillips) Wilkerson's family.

Without documentation it is just a rumor.... grins.

Hi, I am working on a Christmas present for my Mom and found your name as a great great grandchild of Rebecca Beckham and George Willis Snow. I believe their daughter, Margaret C. Snow, is my great grandmother. She was married to William M. McMillan. I would appreciate any information on the Beckham-Snow side of the family as, until this recent research, we knew very little. You may reach me at dobbslaw@gmail.com if you would like. Again, I am trying to pull all of this together for my Mom for Christmas so if you can respond I would greatly appreciate your time. Thank you

Tanya Dobbs

Hi,

I found the wonderful picture of your Anderson grandparents and children you posted on the Beckham County, Oklahoma webpage.
I'm doing research on the Old Doxey Cemetery located near Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma. I'm writing the history on those buried in the little cemetery along with their families and I would like to learn more about the Anderson family. There are two Anderson's buried in the cemetery that we know of. One only has the name Anderson and the other one is Thomas Mell Anderson. I’ve found some information today by searching Ancestry.com and the Beckham County website.
Several from the Sayre area are trying to get the forgotten cemetery to look like a cemetery again. It is grown up with weeds etc., plus some unkind people have done damage to the cemetery also.
I plan on putting the book on the Old Doxey Cemetery in the library in Sayre and also one in Roger Mills County. Any help you can give me would be wonderful and if you have any pictures to share that would also be welcomed.

Thank you,
Patricia Dill

8 Apr 1910
Sayre Headlight Newspaper
Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma
Leta Marie Siglin
Born: 18 Mar 1910
Died: 3 Apr 1910
Buried at Doxey, Sunday afternoon the two weeks old child of Mr. and Mrs. Siglin.
Mr. Siglin works for the Hoges Mercantile Company. Funeral was conducted by J.E.
McConnell. Mr. and Mrs. Siglin extend their hearty appreciation of the kindness
of their many friends in their affliction.

Note:
It looks like the marriage date was correct and the childs headstone dates were wrong. The person who took the reading may not have been able to read it correctly. Most of the headstones in the old cemetery are gone or broken up by unkind people.

Patricia

HENNING (daughter of Albert Lafayette HENNING and Caroline McKOWAN OR McCOWAN) was born on 24 Mar 1886 in Sutton, Robertson County, Texas. She wrote about her family in the Sayre of Red River Valley book in 1939 in Beckham County, Oklahoma. Sayre of Red River Valley
by: Mrs. J.M. Danner
And Dedicated to All Early Day Settlers of the Sayre Vicinity
Mrs. L.L. Siglin
"Saw First Wedding at Doxey"
Though Mrs. L.L. Siglin, Waterloo, Iowa has been gone from here these 27 years, she is well remembered by many friends as Mattie Henning who came west with her father back in 1895.
Here's how she tells it:
Early in the spring of 1895 Albert Henning got the Oklahoma fever. Grandpa Thad Hill had gone to the land of the red man the year before and since Thad was dad's best friend, pop had to go, too. So that spring he gathered his wife and seven youngsters, James, Emma, Callie, Ella, Tom, Mattie and Willie, into a covered wagon, got the horses and cattle together and we were off for Oklahoma.
We got here the last week of June, just when Uncle Jack Freeman was building a dance plat form in the creek bend south of the Doxey grove and making preparations for a big celebration. On this platform I witnessed my first wedding ceremony. The participants were Joe Hudson and Mrs. Charlie Boren.
After the celebration dad looked and looked for a place to locate, but couldn't make a definite decision. Finally John Pullen, who came with the Hill family, persuaded dad to buy the old Fount Sutton place, now known as the "old Henning" place.
Dad lived and prospered in Oklahoma until 1910 when he died. Mother followed him in 1920 and both were buried in the old Doxey cemetery.
Note: Copied from Sayre of Red River Valley, no page numbers. She died on 1 May 1969 in Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa. She had Social Security Number 485-10-0240 issued in Iowa. Name: Martha Siglin SSN: 485-10-0240 Last Residence: 50701 Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa, United States of America Born: 24 Mar 1886 Died: May 1969 State (Year) SSN issued: Iowa (Before 1951 )
Lloyd Lester SIGLIN and Martha "Mattie" P. HENNING had the following children:

2	i.	Leta Marie SIGLIN was born on 19 Mar 1908. She died on 29 Mar 1908. She was buried in Old Doxey later named Hillside Cemetery, Beckham County, Oklahoma.
3	ii.	Edith I. SIGLIN was born about 1912 in Iowa.
4	iii.	Leah L. SIGLIN was born about 1915 in Minnesota.
5	iv.	Cleodale SIGLIN was born about 1918 in Iowa.
6	v.	Lester A. SIGLIN was born about 1921 in Iowa.

Patricia
Note: I'm not related to anyone listed here. I'm trying to find family information on those buried in the Old Doxey Cemetery near Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma. I'm writing a book about the people who are buried in the cemetery along with their families so they will not be forgotten.

Atchley in Elk City, OK

I'm trying desperately to link my Atchley line. My grandmother was Olga May Atchley, her father was Fenimore E. Atchley, his father was Daniel E. Atchley. Daniel E. was born in Texas, lived in Washita, Custer, OK...then in Elk City, Beckham, OK. His wife was Arabella E. They are both buried at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City. His father may have been the elusive Robert Seth Atchley, but I can't be certain. If anyone has any info that can help, I'd be mighty grateful.

MANKINS - Sayre, Beckham Co 1900-1930 census

Emzy Orrie Mankins b.1883 TX, d.approx.1918 according to a Family Tree listed on Ancestry.
WWI Draft Card Registration is dated Sept.1918, he was age 34.
He was a rural mail carrier, Sayre, Beckham Co,. OK.
Wife was Alice E. (Lee) Mankins.
Alice is a widow in the 1930 Beckham Co census.
Death Index shows her death as 1968 in Inyo Co., CA.
Emzy & Alice had at least 2 children that I can find, how many others they may have had I don't know. Oma b.1907 and Monty b.1914 - both I believe probably in Sayre area but don't really know. My problem is that I can't find them in the 1900,1910,1920 census. If children were born there and Emzy was a mail carrier, they should be there, somewhere. Need to find wife Alice in 1920 to see if she was widowed then which would help prove the 1918 death date from posted online tree. If Emzy died 1918 was it War related or perhaps the flu epidemic of 1918? I have not located him in any cemetery in that area, as of yet.

Can anyone from this county help me with my search for this family in those missing years, and / or his death?
