I am looking for information on William or Bill Gipson from Oklahoma, possibly Bryan Co. He was said to have a lot of Cherokee Indian in him. He married a Catherine B? and had a brother named Tom Gipson. Children of Catherine and Bill were Wade, Less, Jess and Minnie.Please help if you have any information about this line of Bill and Tom Gipson. I can't seem to get anywhere. Thanks.

Caddo Cemetery

In 1984 when the last cemetery survey was done, the old part of the cemetery was grown over and only a few graves were found. It was that way on every visit but my last in January of this year. It was moved very neatly. I found about 15 more tombstones than they recorded in 1984. Here's the transcriptions from the pictures I took.

Elrod families of Smith Co., TN; Bailey Co., TX; and Bryan Co., OK.

I am searching for information on the Elrod families of Smith Co., TN; Bailey Co., TX; and Bryan Co., OK.

This is not my line; however, I want to do something for a very kind man, Roy Holland Elrod, who is the widower of a distant cousin. Roy's wife was Malda Scheihagen (Chandler) Elrod. To the extent that I can "quickly" put together a family history for him, I'd like to do so relatively soon.

The thumbnail of his ancestry is that he descends from:
1. Ephriam and Nancy Ann (McDonald) Elrod
2. William E. and Mary Catherine "Kit" (Heard) Elrod
3. William Trousdale and Cordelia (Holland) Elrod
4. Roy Holland and Nina (Wallace) Elrod
5. Roy Jr. m. Malda ... they had no children.

Roy is 89 and would very much like to make contact with some of the descendants of his aunts/uncles, etc.

The graveside service of Dollie Mae White will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Jack Zieser of the Rogue River Church of Christ will officiate.

Mrs. White, 83, of Rogue River, died Wednesday (July 24, 2002) at the Fairview Transitional Health Center in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Roswell Park Memorial Hospital, Elm and Calton streets, Buffalo, NY 14203.

She was born on July 4, 1919, in Cade, Okla. On Aug. 27, 1939, in Bennington, Okla., she married Lewis M. White, who died in 1994. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Livermore, Calif. in 1971.

She worked as a hospital nursing assistant. She enjoyed crocheting, canning, television and word search puzzles.

She was a member of the Rogue River Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters, Louise Kohlbacher, Hamburg, NY, and Debra Eden, Enid, Okla.; one brother, Vertic Reynolds, Salem; three sisters, Fannie Riddle and Charline Russell, both of Salem, and Shirley Basquet, Texas; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

I am searching for Annie Reynolds (her maiden name), b. 1908 or 1909 in Oklahoma to Marshall L. and Dora Reynolds. I show her with the family on the 1910 census in Calvin Ward 5, Hughes, OK and on the 1920 census with the family in Speairs, Bryan, OK.

Although Marshall's funeral notice in the paper in Tyler Texas in Dec. of 1925 mentions 3 surviving children (his son died the year before), I cannot find where Annie went. She is not on the 1930 census for Tyler, TX, where Dora is a widower with her other two daughters, Nellie and Lena/Leona. Does anyone have any info on her marrying or proof she was living elsewhere in Texas? Annie's sister Nellie is my grandmother. No one ever mentioned Annie in our family, even Grandma, and I really want to know what happened to her.

Robert Dallas EARNEST and Martha J. FRITTS moved their family of 10 children to Bryan Co., OK after 1888. There are many of their descendants still living there. Their daughter Carrie was born on 26 Dec 1879 in Arkansas. She and George Washington HAZLETT were married in Fannin Co., TX on 3 July 1898. Martha died 4 Feb 1904 in Tarrant Co., TX. Robert Dallas remarried after her death to May L. Davis and they had at least two other children; Ada and Ruby Odell. Robert Dallas died 30 Aug 1927 in Calera, Bryan Co., OK and is buried there. I'm interested in finding relatives of Robert Dallas and Martha J. (FRITTS) EARNEST and also relatives of his second family by May L. Davis.

Still searching for my g-grandmother CYNTHIA J. WILMOT.
She came from KY in Oct. of 1882 with her 3 youngest children, She married in McKinney, TX Oct.26,1882, to a man by the name of F. G. WILMOT, I have a copy of there marriage license from Collin Co. They were to live on his farm west of McKinney. I found a note that had been sent to me, stating they lived at Robber Roost, Indian Territory around the years of 1885 or 1886. I was told they later moved around the Blue area, I did know untill recently I was informed Bryan Co. used to be Blue Co. I was thinking of the town of Blue as I know it now. So I'm sure where she might be buried are what year. If I could reach enough people manybe someone will know what happen to her. She was born in 1843 in Lincoln Co. KY. When she married Mr Wilmot she had the 3 children, He had 6 children, 2 married daughters, Litha Asley / Nan Leese, 4 at home by the name of Betty, Anna, Mat & Ellen. I don't know when she died or where she was buried. I would apprecate any help I could possibly get. Thanks so much.

Velva Dye was the daughter of Jerry H and Bertha Jennie Rinkle Dye born 10-5-1913. Velva is listed on the 1920 Bennington, OK school records, but when her mother filed for divorce in 1921 the court listed her son Johnny as her only surviving child. Looking for any information about Mary Kelley who first married Silas D Fisher in Attala Co, MS....they came on the Trail of Tears from Mississippi in 1833-34. After Silas died, she married James Fletcher, his wife had died and after James died, she married a Lewisford Maley. I find Mary F Maley and Lewisford Maley on the Blue County, 1880 census. I can find no information about Lewisford Maley anywhere. Mary came back to Attala County after Lewisford died because she is at home in Attala County, also on the 1880 census. She is buried in the Kelley Cemetery in Zama Community, Attala County, MS. If anyone has any information or knows where I might can find information on Lewisford Maley, please let me know.

W. James Weemes, 89, of Talent, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2007. There will be a viewing Sunday, November 4, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A funeral service will be Monday, November 5, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., at Lighthouse Family Worship Center, in Medford. Pastors Bud and Dawn Coffman will be officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Hospice.

James was born February 21, 1918, in Bennington, Okla., to David and Zular Weemes. He married Janice Ann, and enjoyed ten years of marriage.

He was a rancher in California, Oregon, and retired from McGrew Bro's Mill in Ashland. He was also a usher and greeter at his church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 siblings, and his first wife, Polly.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Ann; four daughters, Elaine Nelson, Sacramento, Calif, Judy Griffin and Glenda Haskins, Talent, and Janice Johnson, Dunsmuir, Calif.; eight grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford. 773-6162.

I am looking for information on my Cochnauer relatives who were allotted land in the Bokchito, Bryan County area. The Cochnauer line is of Choctaw descent and the surname is almost always associated with the Choctaw bloodline.

David W. and Rhoda Cochnauer lived near Armstrong Academy and my grandmother Ella Cochnauer-Wall lived 1 mile west of Pritchard. Ohter Cochnauers lived in the Bennington area.

There was a James Hillian that married Tabitha Hilton on Nov. 25, 1900 Colbert, Bryan County, Oklahoma (Chickasaw Nation at that time). They had a daughter named Dollie Viola Hillian born March 11, 1903 in Colbert, Bryan County, Oklahoma. Either at the time of her birth or shortly after Tabitha (Hilton) Hillian died. I believe James remarried someone named Sallie in 1908 in Bryan County and had a daughter in Bryan County named Millie in 1909. I am looking for the burial location for Tabitha or James Hillian and anything else anyone can tell me about James. He was born in 1877 Alabama. Don't know who his parents are. Thank you!

I came across some family photos in a thrift shop in Palm Desert CA. There appear to be several generations of a family but only one photo has writing on the back.
It reads "To Walt and Estelle with love and gratitude,

There was a wedding announcement tucked into the photos and it reads as follows:

Unknown Assailant Fires Load Of Buckshot Into Body Of Ben Risner

DURANT, Nov.30 -(Special)- Ben Risner, Bryan county deputy sheriff,
was laidly wounded at 11 o'clock Wednesday night as he entered his
home at Bennington, twenty miles east of here, y an unknown assailant.
A load of buckshot was fired into his body. The shot inflicted
wounds from his head to his feet, some entering his stomach.

Risner was brought immediately to the Durant hospital where the
physicians probed for the bullets. They say there is no chance for
his recovery.

Risner has made a hard fight on the violators of prohibition and it is
thought by the people of Bennington that some law violator was his
assailant. He has been a deputy sheriff for three years and had done
very effective work in stopping law violations in the eastern section
of Bryan county.

Both are listed on the 1920 census. But on the 1930's census, Hanson is not listed. Sue is listed as a widow and living with their son Lonnie and his family. On the 1940's census, Sue is no longer found. I am guessing that she died before the 1940's census. On some census' Sue is listed as Susan and some as Susanna. But on the 1920 and 1930 cenus it's only Sue. Now before 1920 they lived in Collin County,Texas. Sue Harris maiden name is Fleenor. DURANT- "One fo these days," said Police Chief
Neel Bolin, "I'm going to wind up with a whole
house full of children."
Bolin had just had a beautiful, blonde 2-year-old
girl taken from his arms as he turned the child and
her year old sister, equally attractive, to the
county welfare board.
The children had been left with Mrs Charles Smith
at Pauline's restaurant here Saturday by their father,
Allen Bennett, who had prmosied to pick them up Sunday.
Tuesday, when he hadn't put in his appearance, Mrs.
Smith contacted Bolin, who took the youngsters to the
county court, where Judge Ceph Shoemake appointed a
Durant family as temporary guardians pending location
of the parents.
"Bennett and his wife and another couple showed up
in Durant last week," said Bolin. "Mrs Bennett then
left for Watertwon, NY, where she planned to have a
third child in the next few weeks. Bennett was left
with the two children.
"Saturday, he left them with Mrs Smith and since then
he, too, has apparently disappeared," the chief added.
Bolin filed child abandonment charges against the
parents in county court.
"Those two little blonde girls are beautiful," sighed
the chief. "One of these days I'm just going to ask the
court to name as permanent guardian. Only reason I
haven't done it yet is that I'm afraid I won't know when
to quit."

The wagons would have left after April 20, 1914, the date of the Ludlow Massacre. I know my grandfather, John Wesley Rodgers, and several other persons left Bokchito with supplies. was AMZIAH ROBINSON and EMILY FOLSOM. JAMES ROBINSON' date
and cause of death and his place of burial all happened in
BLUE COUNTY, I.T. in late l864 early 1865 is my immediate
quest any other informtion the other family members would

Nancy I had to write to the Chickasaw Nation Headquarters in Box 1548,Ada Okla. 74821-1548 to get the cemetery name which is Center Hill and it is in Folsom,Johnston County. Its been a while so the addy might have changed. ElizabethDeck,Wesley Joel son of J.W./ Lillie, are there and the one unmarked is probably they said was James David Deck. because, Her stone or his records shows wf/ of J.D. on Elizabeths name? I need help,my g.grandmother is texana Kemp her husband was
Bill Kennedy they had 11 children one,my grandmother,Josephine Kennedy,her sister,eula kennedy,they were born around 1908 and before .Josephine was the youngest she was born 1908 to be exact.I can not find anything more about the kemp or kennedy families.I know texana graduated from texarcana Texas,some Indian school.Please help me if you have any connections to my past If I tie into someone`s line I have alot of info on josephine`s 9 children And Eula`s children.

I'm trying to locate where my cousins D.G. Maner's grandmother Henrietta B. Allen is buried. We think she will likely by buried in Durant as that is her last residence per SSDI. Does anyone have access to obits or have a suggestion of a funeral home in Durant, OK. to start with?

Betty Sue Turner
The memorial service for Betty Sue Turner will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Applegate Community Church. The Rev. Kurt Krowel will officiate. Interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
Mrs. Turner, 71, of Applegate, died Tuesday (Nov. 5, 2002) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Applegate Community Church, P.O. Box 3140, Applegate, OR 97530, or Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Suite 100, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born May 16, 1931, in Bennington, Okla., to Dee and Mabel Cox. On Jan. 31, 1952, in Las Vegas, she married Troy Turner, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 29 years ago from Bakersfield, Calif.

Mrs. Turner worked for the Kern County School District in Bakersfield, Calif., as a special education aide and bus driver. She also worked as a waitress at the Applegate Cafe until her retirement in 2000.

She enjoyed community socializing and an occasional visit to Seven Feathers Casino.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Debby Soltis, Medford; two sons, Steve, Grants Pass, and Troy D., Stayton; a brother, Harold Cox, Bakersfield, Calif.; a twin sister, Bonnie Burkett, Shady Cove; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

what happened to the research of MIss Inez NUNNALLY ???

Aaron Ellis NUNNALLY married Isabelle [GRAY] and they died in the early 1860's in Shelby Co AL.
Aaron and Isabelle's son, John Daniel NUNNALLY was born
25 Sep 1851 in Alabama and died aft Jan 1920 probaly in Oklahoma.

John Daniel NUNNALLY married Miss Eddie [HARRIS] abt 1877 in Fannin Co TX. Eddie was born abt 1860 in Mississiippi and died before Feb 1910 either in TX or OK.
John Daniel and Eddie's son, Claude Miles NUNNALLY was born 21 Sep 1891 in Telephone, Fannin Co TX and died at age 65 in Vinita, Craig Co OK.

Claude Miles NUNNALLY married abt 1917 in Kenefic, Bryan Co OK, to Beulah M. [COVEL] daughter of John H. and wife Lessie was born 16 Jun 1899 in Alabama and died Oct 1969 in a hospital in McAlester, Pittsburg Co OK but her residence was Atoka, OK.

Claude and Beulah's daughter, Inez [Nunnally] born 23 Nov 1922 in Atoka, Atoka Co OK - died 03 Jan 2001 in Tulsa, Tulsa Co OK. Inez never married.
However, Inez was an avid family researcher and her only sibling (living) does not know what happened to her research.
I would think that Inez probably donated it to a library, a genealogy society, or gave it to a cousin who was also a family researcher ???
I would very much like to find Inez's family research !!!!

Harry O. NUNNALLY & John S NUNNALLY - 1920 census

Is any one researching these two men? They both moved from Bryan Co OK to McClain Co OK between the 1920 and 1930 censuses.

John S. was born in Arkansas in Aug 1871. His oldest child, Viola, was born in Indian Teritory in Aug 1895 , and in 1900 he married his 2nd wife, Bettie [GRAHAM] in Atoka, Indian Territory on 11 Feb 1900.

Harry O. was born 14 Oct 1879 in Missouri and married Sarah Ellen [MAHURIN] on 10 Jun 1900 also in Atoka, Indian Territory.

Another man, Thomas Edward NUNNALLY, born abt 1874 in Missouri married Martha Ann [MAHURIN] on
08 Oct 1899 in Durant, Atoka, Indian Territory. She was the sister of Sarah Ellen.

I believe from various records I have found that these 3 men were brothers and were the sons of John Garvin NUNNALLY and Elizabeth [McCLEARY].

John G. NUNNALLY was living with his son John in 1900 and 1920 (bryan Co) and with his son Thomas Edward in 1910 (Bryan Co).

Are there any published Bryan County cemetery books with indexes?
