Caddo Sergeant Declared Dead
Sgt. Clifton E. Leach, former Caddo-county teacher, has been declared dead in a war department message received this week by his wife. Mrs.Avis Leach, of Rocky, after having been missing since July, 1945
Leach, a gunner on a B-24. was previously reported missing in acion Juy 23. 1945. He went overseas in May, 1945, and was first stationed with the 13th air force, on Mortotai.
While on a bombing mission near Saigon, his plane was damaged by flying debris from an ammunition barge bombed at a low altitude.
The crew left the ship about 100 miles off Saigon, Indo-China. Three were rescued.
Sergeant Leach was graduated from Eakly high school and the Southwestern Institute of Technology. Weatherford. He taught school in Caddo county prior to entering the army in January, 1943.
He is survived by his wife, a 20-month-old son. Harry, of Rocky, and his mother, Mrs. R. E. Leach of Anadarko.
