Virginia Christian Yeatts, 94, of Prattville, Ala., died on Saturday, March 28, 2009.
She was born on March 16, 1915 in Grove, Okla., the daughter of Holland and Bertha Christian.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, John Hassell Yeatts; brothers Ray Christian and Holland Christian Jr.; and sisters Genevieve Frayser and Dorthy West.
Surviving are two sisters, Gwendolyn Mitchell and Genne Mitchell, both of Tulsa, Okla., and by many special friends, especially Helen Miliano and Pat Shipp.
For many years, the Yeattses spent their summers in Meadows of Dan, maintaining a cabin in Kettle Hollow on the old Yeatts farm in Mayberry, where John Hassell Yeatts was raised. She operated The Craft House in Meadows of Dan for almost 20 years, while he wrote collections of short stories about life in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
A memorial service will be held today (Wednesday), at 2 p.m. at Prattville Memorial Chapel, 841 Fairview Avenue, Prattville, Ala. 36066. On-line condolences can be sent at www. Prattvillememorial.com.
A memorial service will be held at the Mayberry Presbyterian Church at some future time, prior to her interment in the Yeatts family cemetery. Arrangements for that service are as yet incomplete.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Mayberry Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 706, Meadows of Dan, Va. 24120.
