Am trying to identify the deputy U.S. Marshal John CURTIS who led the preliminary investigation into the murder of deputy Dan Maples in May, 1887, near Tahlequah, OK. Was he the same John Nelson Curtis of Benton Co., AR, who was the grandfather of Carl Curtis, sheriff of Delaware Co, OK, in the 1920s or 1930s? I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
