Hello Ruth, I am so glad you responded and wish to say thank you ! You posting sure sounds like there might be a connection, but as yet I have not figured out where or how. Our Ellison family tree is too from Ohio,Kansas, and Nebraska to Oklahoma and our Mitchell line is from Ohio, Virginia, and Iowa to Oklahoma. Here is what I have so far:
John Sherman Ellison born 1866 Ohio married Sarah Marie "Sadie" Cleveland: one child Gladys Ellison born in Oklahoma 1892.
John Sherman Ellison parents are John Mahlon Ellison and Marhta Barthena Murfin- sound familar?
I have two sets of Mitchells' showing up in my family tree- Sarah Marie "Sadie" Cleveland Ellison, her sister Mary Frances Cleveland -married in KS to a Martin Luther Mitchell born 1860 in Iowa. Martin Luther Mitchells' parents are John Westley Mitchell of Ohio and Mary Woods of Virginia (according to his death certif.). Sarah Marie AND Mary Frances (Cleveland)- their mother being Mary (Wolf) Cleveland born 1847 in MO. Mary (Wolf) Cleveland had a brother named John Leander Wolf born 1850 in MO, and he married in KS to a Frances M. Mitchell born 1856 in Iowa / her parents known to be from Ohio and Virginia (names not proven as of yet, but believed to be kin to Martin Luther Mitchell if not the same parents!). Martin Luther Mitchell is known to have a brother Lewis B. Mitchell born 1859 in Iowa, and whom both died in Alva Oklahoma.

Please let me know if any of this sounds familar to you, for I have not yet put all the pieces together. There must be a connection don't you think?
