The true spelling is Maassen, but have found it spelled Massen in the 1930 census, and the 1910 census as Maassen. 1910 the family lived in Logan Cnty, and 1930 was in Oklahoma CIty, Oklahoma Cnty, OK.

Looking for August Ernest Maassen, spelled Massen in the 1930 census, and wife Katrina Friedrika Wilhelmine Augusta Rutz Maassen, in 1930 census as Augusta K., and daughter Leona L Maassen, (Massen in 1930 census).

August worked for the railroad, and in 1930 was foreman of the car barn.

Looking for anything on the family. Any death dates, burials, marriages, obit's. etc..

Stella's parents are Barney Johnson Robinson & Margaret Emily White. The correct surname is "ROBISON", but it has been misspelled through the census.
Barney Johnson Robinson died on April 24, 1909 in Guthrie, Logan, Oklahoma.
Margaret Emily White died 1903 in Guthrie, Logan, Oklahoma.

In an "OLD Large BIBLE" I found a yellowed sheet of paper, On the bottom of the page is says "Copied by. O. A. Lovell.

Now on the top of he page it has "Family ages

Alvin Chandler Lovell Born Feb. 11, 1826 and died Feb. 23, 1903

Off(U?) Menerva Lovell born Juolly 26, 1836 and died Dec. 30, 1903

Ida May Lovell born Oct 12, 1855 (It may have been Lda May-abc_There is no death date

Walter Chandler Lovell born March 20, 1857, again no death date.

Orlando Alvin Lovell born July 21, 1861 and died Dec. 10, 1937

Sarah Ellen Lovell Born Dec. 18th, 1863. No death dates from here on.

John Newell Lovell Born May 28, 1865

Now this next name I'm not susre about but it looks like Fentimon Elwood Lovell born June 28, 1876.

I come from a long line of Wolf family and would be willing to share info with anyone out there that thier Wolf family too was in the Marshall, and Enid Oklahoma areas from 1893 to present. My grandmothers parents both went to a little sodhouse school in Marshall Oklahoma, and am currently researching to find high school annuals. I would love to share my info with anyone out there, which most of my kin folk are buried in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Marshall Oklahoma.

Eubert N. Hunt b.about 1857 married Mary M. Westlake b. about 1870, widow of Unknown DeWitt. She had 5 children by her previous marriage. One of her children was Lawrence DeWitt b. about 1899.

Eubert and Mary had one child Emil N. Hunt b. about 1912. He may have been in law enforcement in the 1940s and 1950s. Eubert is a brother of my grandfather George Sherman Hunt b. 1861.

Services for Flora Ann Griswold, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Smith Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Dennis Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Summit View Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home.

Born Feb. 9, 1893, in Navina, OK, to John James and Nancy Elizabeth Nelson, she died at her home in Guthrie, on Sunday, December 1, 1985.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. She was also a Bible school teacher at the Missionary Baptist Church in Arkansas City, Kan.

She is survived by two brothers, Joe Nelson of Overbrook, Kan., and Clifton Nelson of Beaumont, Calif.; three sisters, Ruth Laurent of Metairie, La., Evalina Kessler of Asberry, Calif., and Marie Johnson of Denver, Colo.; one nephew, Bill Nelson of Guthrie; one sister-in-law, Marie Nelson of Guthrie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi; five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services for Mrs. Charles Barry, 89, long time Guthrie resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the First Christian Church. Rev. Hugh Holland will officiate and interment will be in Summit View cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barry, whose home was at 107 Mimosa Drive, died Friday at Logan County Memorial Hospital. She was born, Nellie Clara Ashby, August 8, 1883 in Waverly, Union County, KY, daughter of Lottie L. and Elias D. Ashby. She had lived in Guthrie since 1919. A member of the First Christian Church, she was also active in the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include two daughters; Mrs. Paul (Kathleen) Parker of Guthrie and Mrs. Harry (Betty Belle)McInnis of Santa Fe, New Mexico and two sons; Charles Barry of Houston, Texas and John Barry of Tulsa; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be C. J. Nelson Jr., Ted Willie, Leo Anthis, C. R. Carberry, Sammie Willson and Carl Ham.

Alonzo Austin Dies; Funeral Rites Tuesday - Funeral services for Alonzo Austin, 92, retired farmer, who died 15 August 1948 at a local rest home, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Guy George will officiate and burial will be in Summit View Cemetery.

Alonzo, son of Andrew N. and Delcinda (Lyday) Austin, was born 1 June 1856 in Chillicothe, Livingston Co, MO. He brought his family from Missouri to Logan County in 1901 and farmed near Crescent, and later near Camp Russell north of Guthrie and finally, west of Guthrie until his retirement in 1934 when he and his wife moved to town.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Edward A (Ned) Austin and William Albert (Bud) Austin and one sister; Lucy Jane Austin; and his wife of 52 years, Lucinda Emly (Wollard) Austin, who died 6 June 1937.

He is survived by three sons, John Andrew Austin, Eslie Clements Austin, both of Guthrie, and Swain Hugh Austin of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; one daughter, Mrs. Hester Dell Storm of Guthrie; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; three brothers, Fred Austin of Guthrie, Eldon Austin of Richmond, MO and Bird Austin of Elm Springs, Arkansas; one sister, Mrs. Alice Mary (Fields) Greer of Benicia, California.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Clayton Austin, Miltie and Laverne Storm, Wollard, Marvin and Paul Austin. Honorary pallbearers will include Walter Ellis, Jess Kelly, Howard Datin, Ray Lowder, Swayne Abrams, Clarence Helf, Walter Johnson and John Noble.

Mrs. Laurent was born 7 April 1908 in Guthrie to John J. and Nancy E. (Tibbitts) Nelson. She died 17 July 1992 at her home in Metaire.

She is survived by one brother, Clifton "Dimple" Nelson of Beaumont, California; several nieces, including Mrs. Zelma Nelson of Guthrie and a sister-in-law, Marie Nelson, also of Guthrie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Laurent, who died 28 February 1986.

Fire Chief's Mother Dies In Hospital. Mrs. John Janes Nelson (Nancy Elizabeth Tibbetts Nelson), 78, Guthrie '89er and mother of Fire Chief Ed Nelson, died Tuesday night in the Cimarron Valley Wesley hospital here following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral home. Rev. O .P. Blackwell, pastor of the West Side Methodist church, will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Floyd Bennett, pastor of the Calvary Baptist church here. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery near Navina.

Pallbearers will include Walker Peebles, Lige Thompson, Ward Barnhum, Grover Feary, Charles Kieson and City Manager, Loyd Jay.

Mrs. Nelson was born near Bradysville, Iowa, March 31, 1865. She was married in 1883 at Salem, Neb., and with her husband made the traditional run into Oklahoma, when it was opened to settlement April 22, 1889. They homesteaded in what is now Guthrie and had lived here until death.

She has been active in church work and had been a member of the West Side Methodist church since 1889.

Survivors include six sons, Thomas A. Nelson, Mount Wilson, Calif.; Ed Nelson, Guthrie; William Dennis (Nelson), Denver, Col.; Joe C. Nelson, Topeka, Kans.; C. D. ILLNESS FATAL - Funeral services for John Edgar (Johnny) Nelson, 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. (Bill and Zelma Austin) Nelson, 101 N. Sixteenth, will be conducted at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning, from St. Mary's Catholic church. Father James VanGastel will officiate. Burial will be in Summit View Cemetery.

Other survivors are a sister and brother, Nancy Lou, two and one-half years old, and William Paul, three weeks old, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John (John and Blanche Bussard) Austin, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward (should be Edgar)( Ed and Alta Bryan) Nelson.

Johnny developed a streptococcic infection of the blood stream eight weeks ago. He was taken to an Oklahoma City hospital for treatment and brought home after noticeable improvement, suffering a relapse the past two weeks.

She is survived by her husband of the home; one son, Tom Austin of Miami, Okla.; three daughters, Ann Thompson of Pacific Grove, Calif., Marsha Flasch of Mulhall and Betty Hopfer of Ft. Gibson, Okla.; and 12 grandchildren.

John Wollard Austin was born March 24, 1912 in Navina, OK to John Andrew and Blanche G. Bussard Austin. He died Saturday, 19 October 1985 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, OK.

Mr. Austin was co-owner of the former Austin Chevrolet Company in Guthrie and retired from the company on 1 Jul 1982. He married Nell Cotteral of Guthrie on 1 Jul 1933. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. The couple had three sons: Ed of Guthrie, John of Cherokee, OK, and Richard of Elk City, OK. A funeral Mass was held for him Tuesday, 22 Oct 1985, Father Richard Beckman and Father Steve Austin officiated. Burial was in Summit View Cemetery directed by Smith Funeral Home.

In addition to their three sons Wollard was survived by his wife, Nell; one sister, Mrs. Bill (Zelma) Nelson; four brothers, Marvin, Paul, Jim and Charles, all of Guthrie; and eight grandchildren.

Paul was born July 6, 1912, in LaCygne, Linn County, Kan., to Charley A. and Katie B. (Baldwin) Parker. He died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998 at Logan Hospital and Medical Center in Guthrie.

He graduated from Guthrie High School in 1931 and attended college in Edmond. He worked at the Douglas Plant during World War II and was owner and operator of Parker advertising Company from 1946 until his retirement in 1974.

Paul served two terms on the Guthrie City Council, he was past president of the Guthrie Rotary Club and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Service Knights.

He married Kathleen Barry of Guthrie on March 24, 1934.

Survivors included his wife, Kathleen Parker of the home in Guthrie; one son, Norman A. Parker and wife, Nancy, of Norman; two daughters, Linda Parker and husband, Bob Clark and Dee Ann Anderson and husband George (Andy) Anderson, all of Edmond; one brother, Claud Parker and wife, Hallie, of Clinton, Okla.; sister-in-law, Bettie Belle (Barry) McGinnis of Guthrie; brothers-in-law, John Barry and wife Anne of Tulsa, Okla. and Charles Barry and wife, Elizabeth of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Opal, and more recently by a son, Michael Parker, on Jan. 22, 1998.

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Logan County Oklahoma as his home of record.

Soldier: ALVIN LEROY MACK
Born: 1927
Date of loss: November 28, 1950. POW

Alvin Mack is on the Department of Defense Urgent list. This means that there are recovered remians that MACK is associated with. Family DNA is needed to verify or elininate him.

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 45 families in Oklahoma that have not been located. There is one family from Logan County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (77 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Nancy and her husband James PS Beller lived in Tamaha Haskell County OK and that is where she was taken for burrial. I have been unable to find out WHY she was in Guthrie and WHO she was with. So many of my folks came to or ended up in Logan County, it's always hard to know where to start. Many of my Webbs, Balls, Stinnetts, Breedens and others left Sevier County, Tennessee, after the Civil War. They went via wagon train from Sevier to Missouri to Crawford County, Kansas. Some stayed in Missouri and Kansas, some came down to OK for the runs. My Great, great grandfather and family, Abraham B. Webb, lived for a bit in Navina, moving on to Cashion where he died and is buried in 1914. Three of his sons, Ulysses, Andrew and Miles made land claims in Woods County
during this same time period. Ulysses, my great grand father, went back to Jones Cove, Sevier County, married my great grandmother, Mary Ellen Ball, b., 1871-1961,
sometime around 1900. They with other Webbs and Balls, came back to Logan County in wagons. There were also McMahans and Colletts. I would like to exchange information
with anyone who has knowledge of any of these stalwart and brave pioneers.

Also, Abraham Webb was commander of his GAR post in Cashion. I would love to hear from other descendants of GAR members! Abraham was in 2nd Tennessee Cavalry, company I, Union.

He and my grandmother, Margie, and their two children lived in a box car community that traveled around with the railroad company. My Grandfather was a surveyor of the land that they were adding more track to the railroad. Do you have any information about this railroad? Ida Inez Cox, daughter of Elizah and Rhoda Cox, was born in Pottawatomie Co., Kansas, on Jan. 30, 1874. In early childhood she moved with her parents to a farm near Crescent, Okla. Here she grew to womanhood. She united with the Christian Union Church at an early age of 17. In 1891 she was married to Washington C. Overstreet at Crescent, Okla. They resided near Crescent for sometime then moved to Kansas later near Fairmont then to the farm home near Waukomis. Living near Waukomis for over 30 years.

To this union were born 10 children, 9 of whom are living.

Four sons, Jessa A., of Dobbs Ferry N. York, Hiram C., Everett A. of Enid and George E. of the home. Five daughters, Grace Johnson and Mildred Krausse of Douglas, May Young of Enid, Ruth Marnane of Breckenridge and Freda Horstman of Bland, Mo. One daughter, Berniece Opal, died in infancy. She was buried in cemetery east of Crescent, Okla.

Her husband having passed away 8 years ago, Feb. 12, 1935.

She leaves the 9 children, 30 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren a sister, Mrs. Delcy Baker of Boise City, Okla., a host of other relataives and friends. Relatives resided in and around Crescent, Okla.

My name is John N. Lehr, I am researching the following surnames. My main lines are John William Jarvis who settled in West Guthrie, Logan County, in 1892. Holland Green Whinery homesteaded in Lincoln County before the 1889 run. He later moved to Guthrie, Logan County.

Both are my great Grandfathers. John William Jarvis and other family members and neighbors made the run of 1889 but he failed to prove a claim. He returned to Kansas then in 1892 packed he up his family in four covered wagons moved to Guthrie, where he purchased a home in West Guthrie (802 W. Washington). The next year he purchased a farm near Shiloh where some family members lived and worked the farm while others lived in the Guthrie residence and attended school.

Many descendants live in or near Guthrie to this day.

(Mitchell) Wolf whom died July 09, 1920 in Marshall Oklahoma - married to a John Leander Wolf whom died Dec 21, 1914 in Marshall Oklahoma. Can anyone help? I'm hoping to find some clue to help me further my research and break my brick wall I've hit. I suspect by my research that the paper that was in print at this time was the "Marshall Tribune" 1902-194?.

A memorial service for Earl F. Ritterbusch was held on October 24, 2003 at the V.A. National Cemetery in Eagle Point. Mr. Ritterbusch died on October 20, 2003.

He was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on October 13, 1912. During WWII, he served as a tank commander in the army and received medals for his service. Mr. Ritterbusch came to the Rogue Valley in 1961 and worked at the Manor for many years.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 30 years, Margie, include: three step-daughters, Shirlene Evans of Phoenix, Arizona, Sue Galpin of Eagle Point, and Nancy Christensen of Central Point; 6 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Woodson D. "Woody" Lancaster

Funeral services for Woodson D. "Woody" Lancaster, 79, of Guthrie, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Guthrie with Dr. Dennis Clark officiating. Burial will be in Summit View Cemetery, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Woody was born Dec. 21, 1913 in Prairie Dell, Texas to John and Edna Lancaster. He died July 1, 1993 at Horizon Specialty Hospital at Edmond.

Woody retired from Tinker AFB and moved to a farm outside of Guthrie, where he lived until two years ago. After Ruth died, he married Irene Cooper and later married Christine Carmichael Lewis. All are deceased.

His hobby was traveling and visiting with his friends. Woody was a member of the First Christian Church of Guthrie.

He is survived by one daughter, Marilu Staggs, Edmond; two grandchildren, Mike Thompson, Edmond and Denise Holman, Oklahoma City; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Palmer and Tara Thompson; one niece, Marilyn Ragsdale, Salado, Texas; one nephew, Charles Sutton, Guthrie.

Woody and Ruth Lancaster were guardians of John Gibson of Dallas, Texas. He has one son, Jeffery Gibson of Guthrie.

The casket was not opened after the services.

H.C. Rankin Monday received a telegram announcing the death at Colorado Springs of his brother, A. Frank Rankin. His home was at Guthrie, Okla., from whence he was taken by his wife several weeks ago to the Colorado sanatorium for treatment. He was 62 years of age and had been in ill health since stricken with the flu last winter.

H.C. (Henry C.) and A. Frank Rankin are sons of Alfred & Mary Rankin who lived in

Any help will be appreciated. I have information on ancestors and some descendants. But would really like to contact a living descendant. My wife is the daughter of Dr. David's son Wilbur, who was born in OK and raised his family in the St. Louis MO area.

Dr. David practiced medicine in Guthrie OK, died and was buried in Okmulgee OK.

Dr. David Stevens Obit, in part:

Doctor Stevens, who retired in 1928 and moved to Okmulgee ..... A native of Exline, Iowa, Doctor Stevens moved from Iowa to Cherryvale, but came to Guthrie after spending a short time in Kansas. ..... Doctor Stevens is survived by seven sons, Otto Stevens, of Geary, Halley and Mora Stevens, both of Clinton; Roscoe and T. B. Stevens, both of Okmulgee; Clifford Stevens of Ardmore, and W. T. Stevens, of St. Louis, Mo., and five daughters, Miss Jennie Stevens, Mrs Cora Dahl of Lawton, and Mrs. Bessie Wardwell, of Clinton.

Dr. David's children by his first marriage with Florence Kinkade (all born abt 1878 to 1889): Lillie, Stella, Otto, Mora, Cora, Bessie, Holly.

Dr. David's children by his second marriage with Bertha Cole (all born abt 1898 to 1909): Wilbur, David, James Clifford (2 sons David and Teddy), Jessie (no children, worked for phone co.), Theodore, Harriet Agnes, Martha Faye. All believed to have spent their lives in OK except for Wilbur who worked for SBC and raised his family in St. Louis MO.

Martha Faye married an Orbison and raised her family in OK. Martha Faye's daughter Harriet Sue (Orbison) Atwood raised many children in OK, is a first cousin to my wife Patricia (Stevens) Roberts, and regrettably, we have lost contact with her.

Barney married Margaret Emily White 1865 in Fairmount, Leavenworth, Kansas.
Margaret Emily White was born 1843 in Ohio, and died January 3, 1903 in Guthrie, Logan, Oklahoma.

Kenneth James Wilson, 63, died October 6, 1999 at his home in Guthrie. He was born Sept. 5, 1936 in Guthrie.

After serving in the United States Air Force, he returned to Guthrie where he married Eleanor Marquardt in 1960.

He was employed for more than 20 years at Tinker Air Force Base from where he retired.

Kenneth was an avid bowler in both Guthrie and Edmond and held several offices, including president, in the Senior's Bowling League.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Wilson.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his mother, Viola Wilson; one sister, Norma June Watson and husband Jerry; his two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Kendall James and Sharon and Chris Fisher; grandchildren Rhiannon James and Ellis Fisher; and one niece and nephew, Linda Pitchford and Jerry Dale Watson.

In lieu of a memorial service, Ken's family welcome your thoughts and concern at this difficult time.

ONA DELL CROSS

Services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Guthrie for Ona Dell Cross, who died Nov. 20 at Logan County Health Center. The Rev. John Foster will officiate and burial will be in Summit View Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. Tuesday as the casket will not be opened at the service.

Those so desiring may contribute to the First United Methodist Church in Guthrie or to the charity of their choice.

Mrs. Cross was born Aug. 1, 1890 in Logan County near Marshall to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Waggoner. She married Charles Cross in 1911 and they were life-long county residents with the exception of two years in Corvallis, Or.

Mrs. Cross was a member of the Iris Garden Club and the Oklahoma Iris Growers.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James (Iona) Guilford of Edmond and Mrs. and Mrs. Melvin (Mabel) Sparkman, Guthrie; one sister, Mrs. Addie Rush, Mesa, Ar.; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Iris Hudson and one grandson, Charles W. Gravett.

I am looking for information about BLANDENA LOCKETT BUMPUS who died 5-13-1942 or 1943. She is buried in SUMMIT VIEW CEMETERY in GUTHRIE. I am researching the BUMPUS family.
According to cemetery records, the stone for BLANDENA LOCKETT BUMPUS was purchased by NANIE TITTSWORTH. She was buried near CLEBE BUMPUS and ADAM BUMPUS.

Hello: I am trying to locate some distant cousins, per the census they were in Logan County (Guthrie) 1910-1930

Joseph A Davis born Mar 1857 & sp-Ida SIsley Davis born Jan 1869 were quite old by 1930 (72-62). Likley they are buried in the county.

Does anyone have access to burial records-cemstone readings that would help locate this family. They had 4 daughters...Libbie, Minnie, Nellie & Caroline. Nellie wed Ray Johnson...they were also in Guthrie in 1930.
Any help welcome.

Funeral services for Eva Mae Lovelace, 70, of Crescent, Okla. will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999 at Abernathy Funeral Home Chapel of Crescent officiated by Rev. Frank Tunstall. Burial will be in Oakland Knowles Cemetery under the direction of Abernathy Funeral Home.

Eva was born April 24, 1929 in Logan County to Roy and Marie Rutledge McCurdy. She passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999 in Oklahoma City.

She was a homemaker.

Perle P. Holliday was born in Belle Plain, KS but moved to Crescent, Logan Co., OK sometime before 1891. He attended school there with some of his brothers (there were 7 in all)
& probably sisters. He married Bertha Jones 7-3-1910 in Perkins and they had 3 children we know of who were Francis Ray born in 1910 & served in WWII as a SSgt in US Army, deceased 1985 & is buried in Crescent near his parents; Twyla L. & Audine were their daughters. We would like any info you can share about this family as well as Perle's profession. My dad was named after him and passed away 3 yrs before he did in California at age 51. Perle was 81 when he passed away. Bertha was born in 1892 & is buried in Crescdnt along with her husband.
