I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I could find out names of people buried in the Blanchard cemetery. I live in Cali and cant make it back there and I have ancestors buried there but no one can remember much about them but names and no dates. If anyone could help I would be very greatfull.

Therre is a possibility that my ggrandfather, William A. Burns, is buried in a cemetery in or near Washington, McClain County. He died in April, 1910. His wife, mother son and sister are buried in Purdy Cemetery in Garvin Count but we have been unable to locate his burial place. If someone has cemetery records for McClain County, I would appreciate your looking for his name.

Stealey Pioneer Buried Sunday

Mrs Mary Jane Franks, 67, pioneer resident of the
Stealey community for the past 45 years, died
Thursday at her farm home of a heart ailment. She
had lived at her home a mile south of Stealey and
two miles west, for almost a half a century.

Final rites were conducted Sunday afternoon in the
Yoakum church chapel, with Rev. A.D. West of Ada
officiating. Interment was in Hillside cemetery.

Mrs Franks was born in the Choctaw Nation, near the
present town of Caddo, Oklahoma. She was united with
the Baptist church at the age of 15 years.

Survivors include two sons, Dorsey Self, Purcell;
Beecher Self, home address; four daughters, Mrs Bertie
Barnes, home address; Mrs Aline Johnson, Oklahoma City;
Mrs Audie Boyd, Los Angeles; Mrs Dorothy Capshaw, Santa
Fe, N.M.; a step-daughter, Mrs Lola Mooneyham, Purcell;
a step-son, Douglas Franks, Oregon; a sister, Mrs Josie
Plaster, Fresno, Calif.; two brothers, Lee Riggs,
Longview, Texas; Sam Riggs, Borger, Texas; and 11
grandchildren.

Casket bearers were: Neil McElderry, Buddy Williams,
A.H. Edgmon, Roy Glasco, Leonard Green, and Eldridge
Gray.

Rites Held Saturday For Wayman Franks

Funeral services for G. Wayman Franks, former
Purcell and McClain county resident who died in
an Oklahoma City hospital last Friday, were held
from the Rackley Funeral Home Saturday with
Rev. J.A. Ratliff officiating. Franks lived 11
miles northeast of Lexington.

Franks death was caused by complications following
an appendectomy. He was apparently recovering from
the operation and was about ready to return home when
complications set in and he died within a short time.

Franks was born and reared in Purcell and the Stealey
community southwest of Purcell. He was the son of the
late John Franks and was a nephew of Ed Franks of
Purcell.

Franks is survived by his wife and three children. He
was 31 years old. He is also survived by one sister
and one brother.

Casket bearers were R.L. Hamilton, Ober Shobert, Clay
Garrett, A.J. Majors, Pete Garrett, and Cecil Blair.

Interment was made in Hillside cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl May Andrews, 83, a long-time resident of McClain county, were held Monday afternoon in the Conner chapel, with Bill Blair officiating. Interment was the cemetery at Washington.

Born in Caddo county, she had lived in McClain county most of her life.

She was a member of the Baptist church and died Saturday in the Purcell
Municipal hospital following a short illness.

After death of James abt 1910 she married a Alex Newby he died in 1934 and is buried in Hazel Dell dont have anything else on him, she then married a man know only to me as Shepperd who may have had a son named Roscoe Shepperd which was her last name at the time of her death in 1970,She is buried in Gracemont Cemetery along with other family, she lived to be 106 years old. Just an Fyi- McClain county Vets marker that is being planed. A friend of my grandmother Maner's in Byars, Ok told me there is a dead line of March 14th 2007 to get the name added for "free". Then it will be done annually for a fee.

Veterans may list name for free

Purcell, OK -- A rendering of a lone soldier that will be included in the veterans memorial planned for Purcell was released last week.
The intricate 4-foot soldier will be sculpted in bronze and will adorn a memorial that will honor soldiers of the community.
The veterans memorial will be located on city property at the north corner of Main and Fourth streets.
Behind the soldier, a granite tablet will depict insignias of the five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
On each side of the center tablet will be granite tablets listing names of those in the community who have served and are currently serving in the military. An American flag will fly high over the memorial.
The veterans memorial committee members are seeking names of those in the community to be listed on the memorial.
The listing is free, and is open to anyone having served in the United States military including those missing in action and those killed in action.
The veterans memorial enrollment form includes the name of the veteran, address, phone number of the individual submitting the form, branch of service and status, whether living, deceased, MIA or KIA.
Committee members ask that those submitting forms for someone else to include their name and telephone number.
Forms may be sent to Jay Tate, P.O. Box 13, Purcell, OK 73080.
A target date for completion is set for June 2007. The memorial will be completed in time for Oklahoma’s Centennial celebration of 2007.

In 1910 Federal Census Jarvis Williams and Stella Luster Williams were family #149 in Perry Township, McClain County, Oklahoma. Since Stella died at Jones, Oklahoma County, in August, 1986 I don't expect that they moved very far. However no record has been found for Jarvis. I'm trying to locate information on William and J.W Justice. They were listed in my Great grandfathers obituary as sons in 1927 from Purcell, OK. They are from Thomas J. Justice first marriage (b 1853- d 1927). I would like to know their mothers name and if there are any living descendent's still around Purcell.

Is any one researching these two men? They both moved from Bryan Co OK to McClain Co OK between the 1920 and 1930 censuses.

John S. was born in Arkansas in Aug 1871. His oldest child, Viola, was born in Indian Teritory in Aug 1895 , and in 1900 he married his 2nd wife, Bettie [GRAHAM] in Atoka, Indian Territory on 11 Feb 1900.

Harry O. was born 14 Oct 1879 in Missouri and married Sarah Ellen [MAHURIN] on 10 Jun 1900 also in Atoka, Indian Territory.

Another man, Thomas Edward NUNNALLY, born abt 1874 in Missouri married Martha Ann [MAHURIN] on
08 Oct 1899 in Durant, Atoka, Indian Territory. She was the sister of Sarah Ellen.

I believe from various records I have found that these 3 men were brothers and were the sons of John Garvin NUNNALLY and Elizabeth [McCLEARY].

John G. NUNNALLY was living with his son John in 1900 and 1920 and with his son Thomas Edward in 1910.

Are there any published McClain County cemetery books with indexes?

Anyone take photos at Byars Cemetery? Looking for Ben H. Maner -

I'm wondering if anyone in the Byars Okla. area could go out and take photos of Block 47 Lot 1 E in Byars Cemetery?

This is where Manuel Bryant Maner who d. 1935 & poss. his father Benjamin (Ben) Harrison Maner who d. abt 1940 to 1942 are buried. One of them is defiantly there, I was told Manuel had a home made marker made by his wife when he was killed by a drunk driver in 1935. I can't find his dad Ben H. Maner on the cemetery lists anywhere & there is nothing listed at City/Town Hall in Byars on either of them just the Owner of the Blocks name is on file and she is the wife & mother of the two.

Ok here is something I didn't know / or understand & am still a tad confused on but:
A Block/Plot holds 8 people!
Block 47 Lot 1 E -
Has the room for 8 people to be buried.This is the best I understood it from the lady at town Hall.

I'm wondering if there are any field stones or other homemade makers in this Block 47 Lot 1 E ??
Where there is a Maner buried who d. 1935. Or anything to indicate another grave in this Block?

Thanks for any help, I'd sure appreciate it. I've been hunting for Ben H. Maner quite some time. Ben H. Maner is a brother of my gr grandpa Brinkley Maner who is buried in Old Johnsonville.

All the rest of the MANER's in Byars Cemetery are my immediate family. They are all marked well & easily found on the cemetery lists.

I am looking for the burials places for Joseph and Maggie ( Annie - Anna ) Shobert. Maggie was born Anna Margaritha (Anneler) in 1881. Joseph was born circa 1869, and I think died after 1920. Some records show she was born in Germany, but she was actually born in Switzerland.

Their children were Jesse; Mabel; Fred; Annie; Roy; Joseph and Theodore. They listed in the 1920 Cleveland County, Canadian Township, as shown in the 1920 census. But Maggie is not in that census, she is presumed to have died. I am assuming she may have been buried in McClain County, as that was their original residence, and she had children living there.

They are also listed in the 1910 McClain County, Turnbull Township.
Maggie had brothers named John Anneler, of Lexington; Gottfried of Caddo County, and Christian of Arkansas. She had another brother who's last known residence was Tyrone, OK.

I hope someone can let me know where this couple and their children are buried. I will be happy to share any information I have. Thank you, M.Anneler

Does anyone have any information on the above families - especially perhaps a burial place of William C. Mitchell or Nancy Ann (Tye) Mitchell? The Mitchell family was big, and there are alot of descendants. Would welcome hearing from anyone who thinks they are of this family group.

July 31, 1931 - January 2, 2006 Rowena (Jo) Arnold lost her battle with COPD on January 2, 2006, and passed away at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel, Friday, January 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. Pastor Bob Gass will officiate.

Jo was born in Blanchard, Oklahoma on July 31, 1931 and moved to Oregon as a small child. She married Jack E. Arnold on July 30, 1950. He preceded her in death in 1998. Survivors include two children, Eddy Arnold and wife, Cathy; Sandy Lommel and husband, David.

She has six grandchildren, Carly Torres and husband, Laramie; Kelly Gray and wife, Ashley; Tami Ott; Greg Arnold and wife, Patsy; Melissa Johnston and husband, Dan; and Nick Berryhill and wife, Kelley.

She also is survived by ten great grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren.

Jo is the daughter of Homer and Clemie Bowser of Bell Gardens, California and is the youngest of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death.

In the early 1970's, Jo was involved in music with her husband and children, and loved playing the bass guitar around Medford in their country western band named "Mavericks." Contributions can be made to Oregon Lung Association.

A report in an 1893 TX newspaper stated that a "cyclone" killed about 12 people in Percell, OK. Those killed included the O'Connor family, Mr. Peavyhouse and female child named Stowe. I am looking for information regarding Henry Edgar Dixon. He lived with his mother Sarah Ellen McDonald Dixon, in Blanchard, Oklahoma. Henry was born in Copperas Cove, Texas in 1893. I am looking for an obit for Alice Pearl CATCHINGS nee SMITHEY. I believe she died on 2 Feb 1993 in Blanchard, McClain County, OK. I am not sure she used her last known married name or a different name. She was married twice to the same man...my grandfather. There may have been other husbands, but the last one was Andy J. CATCHINGS.

If anyone has a copy of the obit or can tell me how I can get one, I will be eternally grateful.

Absolom "Apps" Prairie Holmes

I am looking for information on Absolom Holmes. He is listed in the 1920 Census in McClain County, Byers Township along with his wife Ducilla P and daughter, Narcissa. I cannot find him in the 1930 census so feel his death was between 1920 and 1930 in McClain or, possibly, Garvin County. I would like to locate his grave. He is my husband's great grandfather.

Could someone please check the 1920 census records for Benjamin or Jesse SMILEY. Jesse would be 72 years old and Ben 40 years old. Jesse married in 1918 for the 4th time, to a H.E. DEAVILLE, a widow. Dave Short was my grandmother Parthenia (Short)Welch brother they were from Alabama their parents were William Edward and Martha Jane Short. I believe the 1920 Oklahoma cencus had Daves wife as Laura with two sons Murl and Earl and I believe Daves sister. I would like to learn more of my grandmothers family. Grandmother Parthenia died 1/11/1953 in Williamson Co. Tn. Any info would be greatly appreciated
