Funeral services for Laura Belle Mitchell will be conducted from the martin Funeral Chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Pastor Kevin Alaniz will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Mitchell was born May 4, 1892 in Stratford, Indian Territtory and died late Christmas day Dec. 25, 1987 at the Cheyenne Convalescent Home at the age of 95.
Mrs. Mitchell was one of seven children and she came to western Oklahoma with her family, Jospeh and Naomi Moad, at the age of seven. She was married to Henry Walden Mitchell, and to this union nine children were born. She was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Christopher Mitchell, age 14 months, born 1913.
Survivors include four daughters and four sons, Mrs. Vivian Fitts of Mineral Wells, TX, Mrs. Merle Andrews of Albuquerque, NM, Mrs. Doris Rahill of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Alyce V. Corkill of Hot Springs Village, AR, Moad Mitchell of Sun City, AZ, BErt Mitchell of Plattsmouth, NE, Keith Mitchell of Oklahoma City, and Dean Mitchell of Norman; also by 21 grandchilren, 34 great-grandchildren and one brother, James D. Moad of Sun City, Ariz.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Assembly of God church were she served as Secretary of the Women's Missionary Council and taught a Sunday School class for 13 years. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and served a secretary for 17 years. She was an active member of the "Nite Caps" and through this membership made many friends throughout Oklahoma and many other states. She also served as Secretary of the Woodman and the Royal Neighbor Lodges. In her spare time she enjoyed dewing, quilting and arts and crafts.
Mrs. Mitchell, otherwise known as "Mamalee" and "Aunt Laura" led and active and useful life and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
