Hello.

Did any of your families from Stephens County (from the 1880s to the 1950s) claim to be "Black Dutch"? If so, why do you feel your family used that descriptor (what does this phrase mean to your family)?

Thanks.
Bruce

I am looking for death dates, obituaries, cemetery information for the following couple:

John SHELTON, born July 1866, Tennessee or Kentucky, married about 1886, Texas, probably Wise County, to "Belle", and moved to McPherson, Stephens County, OK by 1930. I believe him to be the son of John SHELTON and Sarah HOWARD, born 1824, Tennessee.

"Belle" I believe to be Mary Isabelle PARKER, but no proof.
My grandmother Mattie Virginia Allen lived in Duncan, Stephens County when she married my grandfather Arthur Merton Brown on February 20, 1918. I have not been able to find any agency with a record of their marriage. The obit for both her parents mention the First Methodist Church of Duncan as the place of their funerals. Can anyone tell me if this church exists today, or what church would have been successor to the First Methodist Church records? Perhaps she was married there in the church of her parents and records still exist. If the church exists, I would like to known how to contact the minister. This is my last hope for a record of this marriage. Thanks. Art Brown, Nisswa, MN

Am trying to find any information on him and his family...I believe he's the brother of my husband's grandmother. If this is correct, his parents were Earl and Janie Lucindy [Jane/Jonne](Hagwood) Shaver. Janie was living in Marlow during the 1930 census with her son, Grover and granddaughter, Joan. Can't find hide nor hair of them after that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sheryl

He attended high school in Hemet, Calif.

John T. Talley served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On February 28, 1952, he married Coleen Frazier in Silverton, Ore. John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Coleen; his son, "Little" John, and his wife, Rekha; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Sabrina. He is further survived by his brother, Ollie J.

I am looking for the dates of death or place of burial for the above people. I have very little info on this family, any help would be appreciated! Julie

According to Annie Young Wicker's obit her brother Reed Young was in Duncan, OK at the time of her death in 1929.

According to the 1910 Duncan, Stephens Co. census, Josephine was the mother of 11 children with only 4 living. In the 1920 census, she had one more child Roberta which makes a total of 12 children but 7 of them died before 1910.
The 1900 Ellis Co., TX census shows that Ed and Josephine had been married for 7 years and that she was the mother of 6 children with only one (Hazel) living.

1900 Ellis Co., TX census shows Ed to be a farmer

1910 Stephens Co census shows Ed Readie to be a city policeman

Stephens County Business Directory 1918 - Stephens County, Oklahoma
Young, E. R., sheriff

In 1920 the census says that he was Collector of County - probably county tax collector which happens to be the same profession of his grandfather!
The 1930 census shows that Ed was 27 when he married and his wife was 17. In 1930 Ed was a collector of Bank Accounts and Roberta and Ready were still living at home.

Heidelberg and Harriett Matilda Raley. Harriett was a sister of my gggf Benjamin M. Raley. Benjamin and Harriett and their siblings were born in Georgia.

I have located descendants of all my gggf's siblings except those of Harriett. We are planning a Raley reunion in Washington County, Florida for July 7, 2007, and would like to have at least one descendant of each of my gggf's siblings present at the reunion. I would also like to share my Raley family research with other Raley descendants.

Molly married first to Pate WALKER, who dissappeared on Chisholm Trail during cattle drive to Dodge.
No census records can be found of Molly or family, was secretive of origins, quite possibly was Native. One origin story says she was 'adopted by Indians' after surviving wagon train massacre as a baby. Seeking Native HAYMAN ties, any tribe, possibly 'Deer' Clan.

Thanks,
Deb Cavel-Greant

Gibson, (Master Sergeant, U.S. Army, retired), 66, of Sierra Vista, [Cochise county] Arizona, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center. He had been a resident of Sierra Vista for 22 years. Perry was born Aug. 11, 1940, in Marlow, [Stephens county] Oklahoma, to Leo Perry and Ova Marie (Love) Gibson. A gifted athlete in high school, Perry lettered in tennis, baseball, basketball and football. As a halfback, he earned a scholarship to Northwestern University in Louisiana in 1958. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend who will be missed. Perry is survived by his daughter, three grandchildren, all of Sierra Vista; a sister, of Gilmer, Texas; a brother, of Copperas Cove, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dorothea.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at the Hatfield Memorial Chapel, 830 S. Highway 92, in Sierra Vista.
Looking for information or an obit on Virginia Epsie Ralston, b. 1914 in Atoka Co., OK.. She was first married to Oscar Duke. What became of Oscar is unknown. Virginia then married Gordon Temple. Virginia died Sept 6, 2002 at the age of 87. She was a resident of Duncan, Stephens Co., Ok. and survived by her second husband Mr. Temple. I don't know if Virginia had any children. There are several cemeteries in and around Duncan; I don't know in which cemetery Virginia was buried.

I'm going off an obituary of Bertha Lee (Sharp) Roberson - at the time of her death - 12 Sep 1969 - it states that 3 of her siblings were living in Duncan, Stephens Co, OK. They are:

Carl Sharp; Fred Sharp and Hazel (Sharp) Blackburn.

Bertha was born 20 Feb 1891, but I don't know where. I do not know the birth/death dates of her siblings. Any connection would be wonderful as I am at a dead end here.

Thanks!!
Janice
