The 1910 census shows a James W. Rogers, age 34 born Texas, living in Range Township in Texas County, Oklahoma. I want to determine if this man is James William Rogers the son of John C. Rogers, Jr and Mary Catherine Berry. Both of them died in 1879 in Bell County, Texas of "congestive chills" from malaria. James W. Rogers and his siblings then lived with grandparents, John C. Rogers, Sr. and Mary Rentfrow.

The 1910 census of neighboring county Cimarron lists a John F. Rogers in Willow Bar Township, age 36 born Missouri. I believe this is John Franklin Rogers son of John C. Rogers and Mary Catherine Berry.

I appreciate any help identifying these two men.

Carol
RIFFE, Susan Ann - Obit

From the Medford (OR) Mail Tribune 10-30-2007 at www.mailtribune.com

Photo included

Susan Ann Riffe, age 57, died October 15, in Ashland from complications associated with her long struggle with Crohn's disease.

Susan was born in Guymon, Okla., August 29, 1950. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1968 and subsequently received her BA from the University of Denver, and her MBA from Southern Oregon University. At the time of her death, she was in private practice as a CPA in Talent, Ore.

Susan was a devoted sports fan, thoroughly versed in the history and legend of all the major athletic events and their venues. She was an avid reader with cookbooks and well-written mysteries always close at hand. She had a great love for animals; she was particularly fond of horses and dogs, and there was almost always a dog by her side. Cooking was an outlet for her creative talents and, even when illness prevented her from enjoying the results of her culinary efforts, she delighted in preparing savory dishes for friends and family. She had an inquiring mind, great intelligence, and incredible memory and Jeopardy was probably her favorite TV show.

Susan is survived by her parents, Lois and Dick Pischel, of Ashland, and William and Betty Riffe, of Loreto, Mexico; as well as sisters, Catherine Riffe, of Portland, Linda Carpenter, of Elmhurst, Ill., and Lisa Brewin, of Chanhassen, Minn. She is also survived by six nephews; one niece; and her beloved dog, Maggie.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on November 3, at the Presbyterian Church Chapel in Ashland, with Eleanor Robison leading the service.

The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS), P.O. Box 3412, Ashland, OR 97520.

Published in the Mail Tribune on 10/30/2007.
I am researching the Lewis Riley Blankenship family that lived in and around Hooker, Oklahoma. Lewis was born in Mo. about 1866, he married Daisy Isaacs about 1892 in Mo. They moved their family to Arkansas and then to Oklahoma, I know the family was living there in 1930 for sure. I have a death date for Lewis about 1952 in Ponca, Fay Co. Would someone know why he passed there instead of Texas County? Was there a large hospital or care facility there? Did anyone go to school with Lewis' children or know their families? Any help on any aspect would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Audrey

Homesteading in Texas County, OK in 1905?

My uncle, William J. EVERSON, b. 29 Sep 1883 Terrace, Pope, MN and died of consumption 9 Sep 1906 also in Terrace,Pope, MN, homesteaded in Texas County about 1904-5. He became terminally ill of tuberculosis in early 1906 and returned home to Minnesota where he died. His homestead, 160 acres in twp. 5N, range 13E had its title transferred to his heirs (parents) on Jan. 26, 1911 (in Woodward). My question has to do with why as a single man was he homesteading in the Guymon area in 1904-5? Was there a land rush this late in time in Texas County?

William L. Tucker in TX Co., OK 1911

William L. Tucker homesteaded 160 acres in Texas Co., OK 1911. I would like to know anything about this man.

I know that Mary "Mollie" Ann Tucker was running a rooming house or hotel with her daughter and son-in-law in Ada, Pontotoc Co. OK. It shows M. A. Tucker as head of house but lists her as "married" on the Pontotoc Co., Ada, OK 1910 Census.

Mary Ann Tucker is shown as widow on the Pottawatomi Co, Maud OK 1920 Census, raising her grandson alone (her daughter had died and her son-in-law had taken the baby girl and left the boy with Mary Ann).

But in the Oklahoma City, OK City Directory in 1921 Mary Ann Tucker says she is widow of William L. Tucker and working as a maid still raising her grandson. I do not know when or where William L. Tucker died?

I had thought it strange that it said "married" instead of widowed or divorced on the 1910 Census in Ada, OK when it showed her as head of house but maybe he was away homesteading land in Texas Co. OK?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea of when or where William L. Tucker was born. Maybe he was on the 1910 Census in Texas Co., OK?

Thank you for your time and any ideas or suggestions.

Charlene

Hi, I'm still trying to find information on this family. I have written funeral homes, churches and had a lot of help from this list with suggestions that I have tried. I'm hoping with some updated information some body might recognize some of these family members. I have a James H. Davis born in Maine abt 1854 and died in Dade County FL in 1919, His wife Ida M. Davis born in Maine 1855 died in Putnam County FL in 1913, Her husband remarried sometime after her death in 1913 to a Henrietta ?Possibly using name Hettie. I have found no date of this marriage. From copy of James death certificate he had only lived in FL 1 year at the time of his death in 1919. I believe this family lived in Ok but possibly went to Florida during the coldest months. James had 2 daughters Grace A. Davis born 1880 who married a Knowlton. I have no record of this marriage. (marriage date around 1907) and Maud L. Davis born 1881. I have found no other info on Maud and I'm hoping someone might have her in there tree or have the marriage dates. Any help with this family will be much appreciated. James and Ida Davis and Grace and Roy Knowlton are living in Hooker in 1910 census. Thank you.

The family in 1920 was living in Baca Co, CO, but there is no cemetery record of them there. Merritt died in Hooker, OK, in Aug 1980. Katherine was the daughter of Merritt Webster and Abigail Leahy, having been born in Green Co, WI, about 1863. The Webster family and descendants, for the most part, lived around Peterson, IA (Clay and Buena Vista Cos). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Larry Crummer

The town of Goodwell is 100 years old in 2004. Family stories are being sought for each household of anyone who lived in Goodwell. Stories should be 300 words, double spaced, signed Submitted by---, and one photo with that would be published free in the hard bound volume that will later be available. The deadline of June 1 has just been pushed back to allow more families to enter their stories. For more information, or to inquire about more space or photos for your story, please email for details. Time is of the essence.

Looking for information on George L. MAYHEW (b abt 1861) to Mark Alfred MAYHEW and Sarah Anna YOUNG, both from ENG.
Mark lived in Iroquois Co., IL.
George was on the 1920 Geary, Blaine Co., OK Census Record.
His wife was Nell, (perhaps Nell B. Donely who died in CA??)
At the writing of George's brothers will, he was living in Goodwell, TX Co., OK. His brother was Joseph P. MAYHEW who had an orange grove in Anaheim, CA.
George L. and Nell MAYHEW had children:
George Livingston MAYHEW
Virginia MAYHEW

George, SR., was referred to as "Doc" in a letter written by a relative. One family member thought he might be a college professor. Does anyone have data on George. Did he die and was he buried in Goodwell? His death date was around 1940.
Does anyone have data on the children of George? I think George, Jr. may have died in CA in 1971. Need verification on this.

She also was married to a CURBY before she married my grandfather, and she had a son named
WILLIAM CURBY.
LENA PERRY CURBY married FORNIE C. GATEWOOD sometime before 1929 in Guymon, Oklahoma. My father, F.C. Gatewood JR was
born March 24, 1934, probably in Silverton Tx, maybe Amarillo. My father believes that she may have been half Cherokee and one quarter Comanche, but we have not been able to confirm that. Any information about her would be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking for descendants of Sam and Ida Yarbrough, born in Alabama, lived and died in Texas County, OK. I know of three children:
Theo Yarbrough (1892-1977), superintendent of schools, namesake for the Yarbrough school (?); daughter Katherine Saville (?)
Buena Turner Johnson (1896-1982), long-time Texas County teacher; daughter Freeda Wooten (?)
Rada Rarick (1894-1981), OPSU teacher, died in Liberal County, KS.

Sam and Ida moved from Marshall County, AL, to Oklahoma about 1906. Sam's family was from Tallapoosa County, AL. Ida was the sister of my great-grandfather, John C. B. Jordan, and was from Clay County, AL.
