It's been a while since your last post so I hope you see this. I'm wondering if you know of any connection between Tom Autry and the Trawick family on the 1880 census in Wise Co. TX. The Trawick's are my g-grandparents and some of my cousins said they were told that they were cousins, but I haven't found the connection yet. Although, James J. Trawick was from Carrol Co.
The driving directions to Bethel Cemetery are as follows:
Take US 183 one mile south of Manitou, turn left onto a gravelled road. Continue east for just under four miles. You will come to a dead end. Turn right and the cemetery is about 1/2 mile on the right. Several cedar trees can be seen before you make the right hand turn. I am not sure what the boundaries of Holton Township are. Good luck

Am replying to an ancient posting. Hope this gets through to you. My grandmother was Bertha McNamara Sturgess, the eldest daughter of John Thomas and Margaret Jane McNamara. Yes, John and Margaret McNamara are buried in the Tipton cemetery. I remember them both. We called them grandma and grandpa Mac. Will tell you what I know about family. There are no McNamara's still in Tipton but you do have cousins from Bertha's line still living there. It was as you know a very large family and they did scatter across the country.
:) The information in the "Who's Who" does not contain everyone in Tillman County. I suspect the entries were submitted by the interested families (perhaps the ones who would purchase a copy?) The only reason I mention this is to say, I'd accept the Rienzi birthplace for W.W. Childers. Birth doesn't always occur at the family residence. Perhaps his mother was visiting friends or relatives and went into labor. I am very glad the information was helpful.

He IS Luther's brother as well, but he could not have been born in Rienzi, as far as I know. His parents lived in the same place their entire lives. Mattie was his second wife, the first being Susan Browning. There is other information here that I did not know and am grateful to have.

Thank you so much. I probably should have mentioned that Joe Childers was Luther's brother. And I do have information on Joe. W.W. Childers has no connection that I am aware of, but it is interesting that he is from a county adjacent to Tippah. I have wondered if Luther's accident happened while he was visiting Joe - hence the information in his mother's obit that he died in Tipton. The two funeral photos I have show two lines of young women in white dresses, facing each other and stretching from the front door of a house to near where the hearse stood - something I'd never heard of before.

Hope this helps. Davidson's city hall number is 580 568 2600. This is a very small town so you may have to leave a message but they can probably tell you the person who has the records for the cemetery. Perhaps you can track the funeral home records that way.
Looking for information on Luther Childers family, possibly living in Tipton between 1920-1924. Luther and May Capt Childers were shown as living in Elmer, Jackson Co, OK in 1920. However, in his mother's obituary (Linnie Childers, Tippah Co, MS), he was listed as having died in Tipton, OK. I believe he died between 1920 and 1924 because he predeceased his father (Stephen Harrison Childers, Tippah Co, MS) who died in May of 1924. Family history says his death was the result of an accident involving a train. I have a photo taken at his funeral. He and May were the parents of four daughters: Vivian, Lila, Gladys, and Linnie Clarice. One may have died as a child.

Yes, they are there. I'm going that way next week and can stop by to take pictures of the stones. You could contact the Frederick library for an obit lookup on George since he died in 1962 to see which funeral home did the service. Here is a list of all the Olivers in this cemetery per a walk-about done in the '80s: George b.1884 d.1962, Eva Lillie 23 Apr 1902, George Marvin b.3 Sep 1893 d.13 Sep 1979, John B. b.28 Mar 1892 d.20 Aug 1911, Robert J. b.12 Oct 1886 d.17 Jun 1914, Mary J. 21 Aug 1850 d.1 Mar 1920, Octavia B. b.5 Apr 1860 d.27 Jan 1913, Boone J. b.8 Feb 1901 d.15 Jan 1920, James R. b.17 Sep 1859 d.22 Dec 1933. These are all together. Then in another section there's these: Nettie b.1883 d.1956, W. R. b.1877 d.1977. Let me know if you want all of them photographed. Sometimes the stones will be marked as to which funeral home was used.

You're quite welcome. I had to kill some time today and went by the Grandfield Public Library. You'll find Mr. Oliver's obit on the front page, left-hand side. I did make a copy of the page since I don't know if the Frederick Library has copying capability on their microfilm reader. Let me know if you want it.

The library in Frederick should have the local newspaper on microfilm. I know for a fact that the Grandfield library has the Frederick Leader on microfilm, so if you have no luck in Frederick, call Grandfield for their hours of operation. As to the death date, the walk-about transcription only lists the dates on the stone, in this case....just the year. Sometimes if the funeral home did the stone, there would be a small label of some sort between the stone and the foundation but there is no way to know unless you go look.

I am sorry to inform you that Bill died, as have so many of our classmates. He was at one of our reunions. The information from that reunion is: "Colonel Gosnell, 7th Airborne Command and Control Squadron member and Air Force's oldest active duty pilot at 59 retired on October 23, almost 34 years after his first solo flight. Had 14,000 flying hours in 37 different types and models of propeller and jet aircraft. In 1943 at age of 15 joined Merchant Matrines. At 17 joined Navy. In 1946 returned to Oklahoma and joined National Guard. Then attended University of New Mexico."

I have more information if this is your family. Please let me know. The last address I have is: 336 Eastview Dr, Biloxi, Miss. 39531. Telephone 601-388-1978. His wife, Ellie, may still be living.

I know that this message I read was from 2005 but I am the granddaughter of Esther Ruth Pulliam and I have been researching our family line off and on for years. I don't know how I never saw this post from you before. Do you know who got the suitcase with the documents? My grandmother was the youngest of her pulliam family. She was the last to pass away of her siblings also. Albert (her father)and Nora (her mother) were both born in Arkansas and they moved the family to OK where their children were born. Then they moved on to lamb county texas and My mother was born in Lubbock texas.

I am looking for any information about the family of Peter Pride Payne (b. 19 Mar 1876 MS, d. 12 Oct 1959 OK) and wife Myrtle B. Willis, who spent their lives in Frederick, Tillman County. They had two daughters, Mary L. Payne (b. abt 1918 OK) and Evelyn P. Payne (b. abt 1823 OK). There may have been other children - we are not sure, and we do not know who (or if) the daughters married.

Peter was sole heir to his aunt (Mary Lou Alsobrook, d. 1921 MS) who was the family historian and who kept family records. The records Peter's aunt kept may be the only records we have for tracing certain lines in our family, due to fires and the destruction during the Civil War.

If anyone has any info about this family, or access to obits for Peter and his wife, please let me know. My cousins and I sure could use a break on this brick wall! Thanks!

Mary

The person I was searching for Saloma Barnes Foreman (Cornelius) is buried in the this cemetery. Since she and her husband, Solomon Cornelius, were living in Tillman County in 1920, I erroneously assumed that the cemetery was in Tillman County.

Davidson Cemetery help needed

I need help from someone who lives in Tillman county, please!! I believe my g-grandfather is buried in the Davidson Cemetery. His name is George Downing Oliver born April 14, 1884 & died around 1962 give or take a few years. I believe he was living in Texas when he died. His mother Mary Jane Oliver died Mar 1, 1920, I believe she is also buried there. I'm trying to locate a death certificate for George, but so far I've been unsuccessful. My grandmother did not really know her biological father. She saw him shortly before he died, but doesn't remember exactly what year or where he said he was living. I was hoping someone could tell me whether he was buried in the Davidson Cemetery & how I could find out what funeral home made the arrangements, so I could possibly find his death certificate. I'm hoping to prove that his mother's maiden name was Downing. Anyone who can assist me or offer suggestions on how to find out exactly when/where he died I'd be eternally appreciative to.

Wende
wende@taylortel.net

Do the letters mention any specific names?

Wende
wende@taylortel.net

I just thought of something, I only have a death year for George. Do you know who has the burial records for the cemetery? Surely there would be a record of when the burial was so I could narrow down a death date for the obituary search.

Thank you so much for confirming that George is buried there. All of the names listed are apart of his family. The only one I can't figure out where they belong is Boone J Oliver, still working on putting him somewhere in with the others. No need for the photos unless there's one with funeral home info. Now that I know for certain he is buried there I'm going to make the trip to Oklahoma to search out what I need for my Oliver's & January's there in Tillman county. I know it's a small county & wasn't sure what the library there might have. Thanks again for the help!!

Wende
Abilene Texas
