I have been transcribing some old NW OK Marriages that were handed down to me and date between 1930-'45. One of those marriages in 1937 was the Dunning-Ison Marriage. There were some other Dunning marriages that I have transcribed and are on my website at http://okielegacy.org/NWOKmarriages/ if anyone is interested.
Meanwhile, here is the info from the Dunning-Ison marriage of 1937 as reported in the local Alva Newspaper:
Dunning-Ison – 1937 - Miss Mareguerite Dunning and Lonnie Ison Are Wed With Service At Cherokee - Nuptial Services Are Read for Popular Alva Teacher and Homestead Man -
At a simple nuptial service at Cherokee Saturday afternoon, Miss Marguerite Dunning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Dunning, 1128 Sixth Street, became the bride of Lonnie Ison, Homestead, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Ison of Mangum.
The wedding took place at 3:30 o’clock in the First Christian church with the Rev. Keller officiating. The double ring ceremony was used. Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Ewert were the couple’s only attendants. The bride wore a print crepe dress, navy blue background, with matching accessories.
Mrs. Ison was graduated from Northwestern high school and attended Northwestern State Teachers college, where she received a bachelor of arts degree. She is affiliated with Delta Sigma Epsilon sorority and is a member of the American Legion Auxilliary. For the past four years, Mrs. Ison has been an instructor in the West Elementary school here.
After graduating from the Magnum high school, Mr. Ison attended Oklahoma Military Academy at Claremore and Northwestern State Teachers’ college, where he received a bachelor of science degree. He received an L. L. B. degree from Columbia University at Lebanon, Tenn. He is now coach and history instructor in the Homestead schools.
Mrs. Ison will complete the term as instructor here before joining her husband in establishing a home.
