Dear Nelda Brown..
I’m sorry I took so long answering your post – I was unaware of your first post until last night. What a surprise finding another name to add her extensive list!
THANK YOU SO MUCH – it was so nice of you to put that much time researching for our family.
We really need help with our Birdie. We would not object to a research fee – for all future and past research – we are well aware of all the time and hard and sometimes boring work it takes.
If you would consider further research -
Here is what we know about her as of this date:
“Birdie†(Bertie) was my Grandfather Ora (Orra) LeRoy Maury’s (1st of 2 sons) mother.
Grandfather always said he was born in Mattoon IL 1894 – his father Fred (a railroader) died (1896) when he was an infant. Birdie told him that the Mattoon Maury’s insisted raising him Catholic – and she ran away to the Oklahoma Territory to put distance from the family. As far as we can tell – the family lost all connections at this time.
Grandfather reported he grew up in Guthrie and Picher Oklahoma. A job took him to Minneola KS, where he met and married my Grandmother Riley and they and my father migrated to Pueblo CO around 1920.
Our Mattoon research found Fred and his family. He was a railroader, but the family were not Catholic. We also now believe my grandfather was probably born in Oklahoma. No birth certificate could be located in ILL. My father recently related a story that when his when father went to work for the US Army abt 1940 he needed a birth certificate and Birdie got it from Oklahoma.
Information on the Mattoon connection can be found on our family site here:

On the family site we maintain a page about our research. Birdie is at the bottom of the page.

My father reported her known last names as Husted, Maury, White, Bloxsom and Thompson.
Born 1872 in Ill – probably McDonough county.
My uncle Joe White 1900-1973 (her 2nd son) was born probably in Kansas.
His death certificate can be seen here:
http://www.mitchellins.com/price/joedcert.htmBy 1910 (Per census you mentioned) she is at 502 W. Noble – Guthrie.
The Roy Murray you mentioned we believe is my grandfather Roy Maury. Joe is his half brother.
Holbrook was a new name to add to the puzzle. (What happened to Mr White and now Mr Martin?)
Mr. Holbrook died 06-05-1912:

http://www.mitchellins.com/price/cen20ok.htmHer name is Bloxsom – she is with a Walt Thompson. We believe this was her last husband. They both moved to the Pueblo CO area in the mid 20’s.
We found her in the 1930 census in Pueblo
http://www.mitchellins.com/price/cen30pu.htmUncle Joe is with her – she is married – Walt is missing.
She died in Pueblo in 1942. Photo of her death certificate here:
http://www.mitchellins.com/price/birddcert.htmMy father has fond memories of her – and we’d like to know more. We are hoping research will uncover the lost Husted grandparents and hopefully we can learn about possible lost (to us) Oklahoma relatives.
Regards,
Marilyn Maury
