Need help locating a homestead plot (listed in Smith's directory) for Merritt Glidden in Logan County, 1890

I'm researching an individual listed in the 1890 Smith's First Directory in Logan County:

http://files.usgwarchives.net/ok/logan/history/dir/smiths189...

The entry I'm interested in is:

Glidden, Merritt, ne 29 12 1

I understand that this information is to be interpreted as "Glidden, Merritt, Logan County, NE Quarter, Section 29, Township 12, Range 1", but how do I locate this place on a map?

Also, does anyone know where I might be able to find an obituary, will, grave site, etc. for Merritt Glidden? I believe he died on April 28, 1898 in Oklahoma though I can't be sure if he died in Logan County.

Thanks for any help!

Sam

The chances of the obituary being on the internet is slim to none. Unless someone has copied it and posted it.
I will be at the OHS Library (35 miles) tomorrow for a seminar and will look to see what papers they have microfilm for towns in the area and then will look at the date you stated for an obituary. Then I will print it. If you will send me your address I'll mail you a copy if there is one in the papers. Send it to fred2dittmar.net

I would be very grateful if you could loop up his obit. and then tell me the procedure of how you did it and then I would not have to eamil the Genealogical Society by doing it myslef. Does that make sense. I figure, you all are pretty busy.
Again, I really appreciate you getting back to me and taking the time to try to figure this out.
I have found that genealogy people are just great!

I thank you for emailing me back and taking the time to help me.
What County is Anadarko newspaper in? I tried to google it and didn't come up with anything. Why would his obituary not be in the nearby town of Synder. I was there when I was 13 years old for a visit to my grandpa.I have never heard that name.

When I asked for a newpaper article on my family before, the Genealogical society found it. Can you look to see, since he died in 1964 in Mountain Park, Ok.?It iis not like he died in the 1800's. I would so appreciate your efforts. I do not know how to research this.

theduchessofdining@comcast.net

Some other newspapers that might have an obituary are:
Cordell Beacon, Hobart, Anadarko or you might check with the Oklahoma Historical Society Library as they have 90% of the newspapers for Oklahoma since before statehood. You might also google the county genealogy societies for Kiowa and Washita Counties.

I am looking for the burial and death notice of Albert C Herrmann aka "Bert Hermann" and "Blondie". He died in a car accident in Eastland or Stephens County, Texas in September 1923. The newspaper article says his burial would be in Guthrie, Oklahoma where his mother and father resided. His mother and father, Rose and George Herrmann.
Oklahoma Children's Home Society-- Noah Wickham

I have stumbled on this board by the grace of God, I do believe. I have both information that may help others and am still searching for information. My search is for a "Leo Petty" who was placed at the Oklahoma Children's home society in Guthrie in November or December of 1925, he was about 10 years old at the time.....I did contact Guthrie Schools to see if they had records and was not successful. Any ideas of how I could piece together what happened to him? I believe I came across a jail record like petty theft or something, in Guthrie, for the name but was not sure if it was him...I have looked for so long as did my late mother who passed away last year at age 83. The connection is this: It is really his little brother Limon Lionel Petty's records I'm trying to locate....This is my late father....and we searched for years. We actually have copies of the records of when my dad was removed from the home...he is listed as a male child about 2 years old...surely, there is a birth certificate some place that gives his birthday and when he was born. When he went into the Navy prior to WWII they gave him a birthday of the date he was placed in state custody. Now, for the "Help" it was by accident we discovered Leo. We had received a court order from one of the juvenile judges which was not a big deal about fifteen years, ago,due to how many years ago this all happened. My dad was still alive at the time. We went out to the Department of Libraries by the Capitol and they have a "caged room" with old archived records, and you can only access them with an order. They were able to tell us when my Dad was placed and also told us an older brother listed as ten years old was also placed with him...so we have looked for Leo Petty for many years, now...we had always hoped he may have shared what happened with his family so we could figure out when my dad was born. They were both placed at the home but in separate buildings due to their ages according to the records at the library. Also, my dad was placed in foster care for a year with a family in Kingfisher and I do have the name of the family someplace in my records. It is so strange that we can find absolutely nothing on Leo. I would be happy to come to Guthrie and begin searching...The spelling of the names are from the court records of 1925. Surely, Leo went to school in the Guthrie area at least until age 16. Also, the records at the capitol do not show Leo as ever leaving to their knowledge, probably due to his age. I've tried ancestry.com for records but by 1930, Leo would have been 14 - 15 and may have left on his own. Any HELP would be deeply and profoundly appreciated. Thanks, Kay

I have not found any parents to Jasper or the Anderson's. I did find a line in one of the Guthrie City Directories stating that Jasper was in business under Suttle and Parsons Real Estate. Wonder if that might help find more on him. Also David according to his obit was a Texas Ranger under Capt. G.W. Campbell.
I sure wish I could get further back on these people.
Logan County Court Clerk's office: Marriage Book 10, page 401 reveals an application for the marriage license, the issuance of the license on 18 Feb 1911. However...the Certificate of Marriage has the date and place of the ceremony lined out by the minister. I interpret this as the marriage not actually taking place at least at this particular time. The application for the license shows Ples H. Finley of Logan County, Oklahoma, age 22, born in Arkansas, residing in Guthrie. Dorothy O. Rasmussen, age 17, born in Iowa, residing in Guthrie. The Mother and Step-father gave permission for Dorothy to marry. It was signed: Mrs. V. E. Bittenhurs and W. H. Bittenhurst.
The Certificate of Marriage states: "I, Fred L. Wright, Minister United Presbyterian Church of Guthrie in Logan County, State of Oklahoma, do hereby certify that I joined in marriage the persons named...etc..., on the ______ day of _________ A.D., 19___, at _____________ in ____________ County, Oklahoma in the presence of Mrs. John Tripp of Guthrie and Mrs. John Tripp of Guthrie. /s/ Mrs. John Tripp, Mr. John Tripp and Fred L. Wright" In the space where the line is on the form there was another written in squiggled line in each of the blanks.

It is possible they married later. Could be in another county or something else took place. You might try contacting the First United Presbyterian Church office in Guthrie to see what their records show, if anything. The pastor is Rev. Karen Rogers & the address is 102 E. Noble, Guthrie, OK 73044, phone 405-282-0835.
Good luck!

I checked the Guthrie Daily Leader from March 5 through March 14, 1952, but did not find his obit. I'm so sorry. You might try contacting the Oklahoma History Center for a newspaper search for some other newspaper that might have covered the Mulhall area during that period.

Re: DOCKER, Albert H and Lucetta

This has been interesting, to say the least. I have looked in Guthrie City Directories 1896 and 1898. Did not find any Docker entries. We do not have an 1899 directory. The next one is 1900. Here is the entry on page 42 "Docker, A. H., Prof. K.C. Sample room, r. 311 Oklahoma." You stated he disappeared from Kansas City in 1899. I don't know how to interpret the "Prof. K.C. Sample room" -- but could he have had samples of furniture, liquor, or some other product that he would have tried to sell? Maybe the Prof. should have been Prop. for proprietor?? Just don't know what this is without doing much more research.
1902-1903 Jennings' Guthrie city Director, page 71: "Docker A H, saloon and hotel 311 w Oklahoma, r same. Docker Mrs. Lou, laundress, r 902 w Noble."
1904-1905 Jennings; Guthrie city Directory, page 54: "Docker Albert H, wf Lou, saloon keeper, r 620 W Cleveland."
1907-1908 R. L. Polk & Co.'s Guthrie City Directory, page 84: Docker Albert H (Lou), dept sheriff, r 915 W Noble av."
Note: Albert either died about 1908, or they divorced. I checked the probate indexes and did not find anything. I didn't check the old ledgers for divorce, but they are available if you want this avenue pursued. I did not find a burial in Logan County for him.
1908-1909 R. L. Polk & Co.'s Guthrie City Directory, page 84: "Docker Mrs Lou, b 712 S 1st."
1910 R. L. Polk & Co.'s Guthrie City Directory, page 104: "Docker Lou (wid Albert H), r 310 S 3d."
1912 R. L. Polk & Co.'s Guthrie city Directory, page 81: "Docker Lou (wid Albert), seams, r 705 W Grant av."
1915 R. L. Polk & Co.'s Guthrie city Directory, page 63: "Docker Lucetta (wid Albert), seams, r 705 W Grant av."
1923 Guthrie City Directory, page 45, Docker, Albert stud h 609 W Warner"
I went to the Logan County Court House and checked school census records. There were entries as early as 1912 and the last was 1926 for Albert Docker. I did not copy all of them, but the 1912 shows the mother's name as "Lon Docker" at 705 W. Grant, Guthrie, OK. It gives his birth date as 11/2/1906, white. The 1918 school record shows the mother's name as "Luecetta Docker" and it gives the address as just Guthrie, OK. His date of birth is shown as 11/2/1906, white, male. The 1921 school census shows exactly the same as the 1918. Here's the goodie. 1926 the mother's name is shown as Lucetta Poole, address 609 W. Warner, Guthrie, OK. Albert Docker's birth date is incorrectly shown as 12/28/1800 (?). I checked the marriage indexes for a marriage of Lucetta to a Mr. Poole between 1921 and 1926 and none was found. There is a burial of a Mr. Poole in Guthrie's Summit View Cemetery which I think was 1924.
The 1920 census, Guthrie, Logan County, Supervisor's District No. 5, Enumeration District No. (can't read it), page 115, line 17, dwl. #33, fam. #33, looks like "South Fourth", Allen, Lucetta, Head, F, W, 50, D, Michigan, Canada, Michiga, labor, servant. And, line 18 is Docker, Albert, son, M, W, 13, s, South Dakota, Canada, Michigan, none.
So, there she is with another last name. Looks like Mr. Docker may have died ca 1908, she married Mr. Allen sometime between 1918 and 1920. He died, then after 1921 but before 1924, she married Mr. Poole. These are merely suppositions based on her saying she was a widow on the census and the directories saying she was a widow. I certainly can't confirm these marriages at this point.
After 1926 I cannot find them in Logan County. However, I did find an entry in the 1930 census for Albert Docker age 23 as an inmate in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester, Bucklucky Township, Pittsburg Co., OK, page 99.

I am puzzled as to Lucetta's differing claims of age, birth places, etc. It surely does appear to be the same persons on the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 even though there are discrepancies in some of the facts.

I hope this information will help shed some light on this family in Logan County, OK. good luck!

Thanks Pat, not my Herrmann...........the guy is elusive!
He died in a car accident in Texas, I have a newspaper clipping but no heading or date. It says he was to be buried in Guthrie OK where is parents where residing. I can't find a death certificate in either state and my OK Herrmann's are not yet posted on "findagrave". Most of them are buried in Tulsa OK. But I appreciate your suggestion.
