GRANVILLE EDWARD STUART
Granville Edward Stuart, 75, died at his home August 24, 2000 as the result of cancer.
He was born April 25, 1925 in Richland, VA to Ray and Evie Stuart. He was raised in West Virginia and at age 15 went into the Navy. He served on the USS Washington battleship during World War II and served throughout the Pacific and Atlantic. He then served on the YMS 413, a mine sweeper out of San Diego, California. He was shipped to Japan, and then made his home with his family in Astoria. (Clatsop Co.)
He worked for Pacific Power and Light in Warrenton for many years, then moved to Portland and worked for Gresham Berry Growers, where he was the electrician for the plant. He worked as a steam-fitting engineer for Mortinson co., and traveled across the United States servicing all the boilers.
He lived in Lincoln City for 17 years and was county commissioner for Lincoln County. He moved to Bend after retirement with his wife, Jill, where he enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed Bend High School football and baseball. (Deschutes Co.) He liked to camp, was an armchair football fan, and liked to cook.
He was a past member of the Rotary of Lincoln City, Elks, Lions and the Booster Club at Bend High School.
He is survived by his wife Jill; his brothers Claude of Port Richey, Florida; Charles of evansville, Indiana; his sister, Virginia Roache of Evansville, Indiana; 10 children, step-son, Scott Carpenter and his wife Kereah Carpenter of Aloha; sons Michael Stuart of Ione, George Stuart of Portland, Gregory (Leroy) Stuart of Milwalkie; Howard Stuart of Yuma, Arizona, Jeffery Stuart of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ronald Stuart of Boise, Idaho; daughters, Vickie Case of La Grande, Janet Shoenwald of Colville, Washington, and Brenda Harvey of Bend; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George.
He will have a full military burial at sea in Norfolk, Virginia and his ashes will be scattered at sea. Autumn Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
