Edna Hoskins, 101, of Cave Junction (Josephine Co.) died Oct. 20, 2002 at the Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 18, 1901 in Bryon, Ohio to Nellie and Edward Wilber.
When she was four years old, she traveled to Oregon from California with her family by covered wagon.
She married Louie McCready Sept. 28, 1919 in the Yamhill Valley. He preceded her in death Dec. 12, 1929.
She married William "Bud" Hoskins Jan. 1, 1934. He preceded her in death Dec. 12, 1959.
They moved from the Yamhill Valley to the Illinois Valley in 1934, where she worked as a housekeeper.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Rebekkahs, the American Legion, and the Illinois Valley Garden Club.
She enjoyed rafting on the Lower Rogue River, and dancing. She also enjoyed collecting bottles and items related to elephants.
Survivors include five daughters, Alice Steele of Grants Pass, Mary Hoskins of Florida, and Sara Jones, Norma Trickel, and Adelaide Porter, all of Cave Junction; two sons, Doug Hoskins of Cave Junction and Richard McCready of Cottage Grove; 27 grandchildren, including a grandson, Tony Kennedy and his wife, Connie, of Newport (Lincoln Co.) ; 59 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Berthaud; and two sons, William Hoskins and Frank Hoskins.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Belt Building in Kerby. Private cremation rites will be provided by Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home of Grants Pass.
