Dorothy Lee Venning, 78, of Fredericksburg, died Jan. 16, 2006 at Mary Washington Hospital.
She was born Dec. 16, 1927 in Panama. She was a champion swimmer in high school and was the valedictorian of the Shreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas. She furthered her education at the University of Texas studying journalism and at the University of California at Los Angeles studying English.
She married her high school friend, Denis Venning, on Feb. 22, 1952. They settled in California until his retirement in 1991, when they moved to Oregon. They moved to Fredericksburg in 2005 to be closer to their family.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Newport. She enjoyed music and was especially proud of her piano teaching.
She is survived by her husband, Denis; son Craig Alan Venning and his wife, Patricia Joyce of Fredericksburg; daughter-in-law Dawn Louise Venning of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren, Stuart, Michelle, Leahi, Roxanne and Christopher; two great-grandchildren, Savannah and King, and two great-grandchildren on the way.
A private graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
