Richard Dee Beeson

Richard Dee Beeson, 62, of Newport, Ore., died Oct. 18, 2008.

He was born March 4, 1946 to Ivan and Vera Brown Beeson in Eugene. He spent his formative years in Springfield with his parents and siblings, Irv and Karen. He graduated from Thurston High School in Springfield, where he was the student body president and nominated Future First Citizen.

He then attended the University of Oregon, where he was on the Dean's list, was a member of the Sophomore Mens'Honorary and the University of Oregon Symposium Team. He also served as the Senator of AS University of Oregon and Commander of his Air Force ROTC group in 1967. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1968.

He then went on to the University of Oregon Law School and received an alumni scholarship. He presided as the 1971 class president. He graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence and became a member of the Oregon State Bar in 1971.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was appointed Special Investigator, US AF Office of Special Investigations (OSI) and served as part of the Jag Corp in Alaska. While on active duty in Alaska, he also taught law courses for the University of Alaska.

In 1976, he moved his family to Newport and joined the law firm of Minor and Yeck. He continued to practice law under Richard D. Beeson P.C. for 32 years, until death. He dedicated his professional life to his clients and took great pride in helping others. Over the years, he hired several outstanding people to assist him in his practice, including four of his children: Brent, Brady, Brian and Tyra. Monteen Nash and David Guempelein were his loyal assistants for many years.

In addition to his professional life, he was extremely active in the community, serving on many committees and supporting many causes. He was a member of Newport Boosters, Lions Club, Beeson Bandits Softball Team, to name a few. His daughter, Tyra, attended school in Corvallis, and he contributed to Corvallis sports by buying volleyball uniforms.

Humor was central to his life. He loved entertaining his family, friends and community. He entertained on KNPT. Storytelling was one of his passions.

He also enjoyed golfing with friends, Trash, Snelling, Belloni, Collson, E. Yeck, Wienert, Cooper and others. Another passion was his pheasant hunting trips with sons Brent, Brady and Brian. Some of his favorite times were with his blended family on various trips and outings.

He was proud, to say the least, of his blended family. He boasted about his wife being a professor at Oregon State University, he beamed about his children earning varying degrees from the University of Oregon, University of Hawaii, University of Southern California, University of Alabama, Purdue and soon Oregon State University. He was proud of his children's successes and his grandchildren.
