Seeking information on Katherine ("Katie") HARRIS b. abt 1895 jin NE Oregon; d. 1926 at Cheney, Sedgwick County, KS and is buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Cheney, KS. (I had been told earlier she was born in Baker County, OR).
On 17 Jan 1911 in either NE or NW Idaho, "Katie" m. Jacob ROUTH b. 9 Oct 1883 Charity, Dallas County, MO; son of Francis Marion ROUTH (b.19 Sep 1849 Polk County, MO, d. 11 Dec 1923 at Charity, Dallas County, MO) and Amandaa Jane ROBBINS b. 9 Jan 1854 IL, d. 19 Mar 1886; dau of William ROBBINS & Sarah FLETCHER.
Early in the 1900s, Jacob ("Jake) was working for the railroads and lived at Strawberry Hill, Wyandotte County, MO. He later went west working for oil/gas companies. They moved to Elkland, MO. There an infant died. In 1921, Jake & Katie adopted a six-week old infant, James ("Jimmy") b. May 8 1921. No one was told in her family that the baby was adopted and he did not learn until he was 17 that he was adopted.
In 1922, Jacob & Katie and their baby, "Jimmy" moved to Sedgwick County, KS where Jake was a wheat farmer. Katie died at age 31 from cervical cancer there.
Katie had a sister, Margaret HARRIS, m. Unknown GRAVES and they lived in Winnamucca, NV. After her husband died, Margaret ("Maggie") moved back to OR and lived there until her death. I believe she is buried near Vale, OR. "Maggie" was active in the First Christian Church. Any information about these two sisters would be greatly appreciated. My father was their adopted son, "Jimmy" and is in failing health and would like to know about his mother. Can you help me? Thanks for your assistance.
