There are three known Hickey brothers, Patrick, Nicholas and Thomas, who came from County Meath, Ireland to Altoona, PA. According to the Catholic parish records, their
parents were Patrick Hickey and Alice Cassidy. The younger Patrick was baptized in the Parish of Curraha on Sept. 21, 1828, his sponsors were John Hickey and Rose Clarke.
Nicholas was baptized in the Parish of Curraha on Dec. 6, 1830, his sponsors were John Fitzharris and Anne Kelly. Patrick and Nicholas Hickey, along with what is believed to be
a Cassidy cousin, arrived in the Port of New York on June 13, 1856, aboard the Ship Ellen Austin. Both Patrick and Nicholas married, raised their families, worked for the railroad
and died in Altoona. Patrick died on Nov. 6, 1904 and Nicholas died on June 4, 1889. They are both buried at St. John's Cemetery in Altoona.
No baptismal record has been found for the third brother, Thomas, my gr gr grandfather. However, there is a marriage record for Thomas Hickey. He married Mary Eiffe in the
Parish of Curraha on Feb. 18, 1860, their sponsors were Thomas Connell and (not recorded) Donohoe. Thomas and Mary Eiffe Hickey, along with their two small children, Patrick
and Mary, arrived in the Port of New York on June 21, 1865, aboard the Ship Erin. Like his two brothers, Thomas raised his family, worked for the railroad and died in Altoona.
Thomas died on April 24, 1912. He and his wife, Mary, are also buried in St. John's Cemetery in Altoona.
