Do not know her husband's first name. But I was told today that both are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Industry, Beaver, PA. Her daughter, Agnes Talego, is buried in the same cemetery.
I am trying to find out what became of my gt, gt, gt aunt Ann/Annie b1843 who left England c1870 for Pennsylvania. She can be found in the 1880 US census with her husband Daniel Potts, aged 35, coal miner and their children Annie L b1874 and Margaret F b1879. It is possible that she remarried to someone named Shirra/Shivra as she had changed her name to Ann Shirra by 1910 according to letters I have found. She may have remarried under the names Potts, Levick or Blockley. Any help anyone can give me is much appreciated. Any ideas on where to look

Looking for information on the family of Carson P. McDanel. I believe his parents to be Thomas C. McDanel and Margaret A. Porter. Siblings possibly - William, Mary, Julia, Ethan, and Ezra.

Carson McDanel married Carrie Schuler, daughter of Conrad Schuler and Elizabeth Scheidemantle. I also believe that the marriage to Carrie Schuler was Carson's second marriage. I am most interested in learning more about their son Paul McDanel (possibly stepson to Carson).

Following is Carson's obituary from the New Castle News, Tuesday, May 31, 1932.

"Carson P. McDanel Dies on Sunday
ELLWOOD CITY, May 31. - Carson P. McDanel, aged 80, passed away on Sunday at 8:20 a.m. at his home in North Sewickley after a short illness. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Carrie McDanel, and the following brothers and sisters: William O. McDanel of Portersville, Mary A. McCray, Julia A. Funkhouser of New Brighton, Ethan T. McDanel of Marion township, Ezra S. McDanel of New Brighton; one stepson, Paul McDanel; one granddaughter, Mary McDanel, and also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the Providence Baptist church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. J. R. Routledge in charge. Interment will be made in the North Sewickley cemetery.
Rochester, old cemetary at end of Pinney st name?

I grew up on Pinney St in Rochester across from the Elk's Lodge. I remember an old cemetary at the end of Pinney St at Chester Way,where Pinney St ends. I can't find any info on this cemetary online, anyone know the name of it? I remember walking and riding my bike down the paths through it as a kid to go down to the K-Mart. I know that it was very unkept, and in 1976 the boy scouts went in and cleaned it all up, but, it just grew over again after some years, seemed no one took interest in preserving it and taking care of it.
I remember so many old tombstones, possibly war veterans of the war of 1812 or the revolutionary war and probably founders and settlers of rochester? Any help is appreciated.

I am looking for info on my 3rd ggrandparents, James Laughlin (b. abt 1831 in Ireland d. between 1900-1907 in Big Beaver, PA) and his wife Julia Cullen Laughlin (b.08/17/1838 in Ireland d.10/22/1907 in Big Beaver, PA). They were married in Durham Co., England Jan-Mar 1855 and immigrated to Beaver Co. in 1868. They had 9 children, James, Catherine (my gg grandmother), John, Daniel, Mary, Patrick, Charles, Joseph and Julia. Most family remained around Big Beaver and Koppel. I think Julia Cullen Laughlin may be buried at the old St. Theresa Church Cemetery in Hoytdale, but I am not sure.

I don't know if there is any connection to the other Laughlin families living in that area from the late 1700's onwards.

I have info on some descendants but missing quite a few.
Kwasnieski of Midland, PA

Looking for any information of John and Alice Kwasnieski. Lived in Midland from about 1920. They came from Poland. Children: Anthony John and Jean. Anthony changed his name to Sours sometime after 1934, we don't know why. Jean married Sam Kuhansky, no date. Sam died 16 Aug 1960. She married Roy H. Garrettson 12 Sep 1967. John died in 1959. He worked at the gas plant for Crucible Steel Mill. In the 1930 census listed a boarder John J Hanley. Tony graduated from Midland H.S. abt 1932-34 Jean abt the same time. Would anyone have yearbooks of those years?

Jesse Smith from Smith's Ferry, PA

Good Morning,

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this dilemna.

From speaking with my wife's grandmother, we've got Jesse Bowman Smith, born August 1877 in Smith's Ferry, PA. She's quite certain he's related to the Smith's of Smith's Ferry, as he apparently told stories about growing up there when she was young. She says he is the son of Jesse Smith and Fannie Kirby. His grandfather is Samuel smith. His siblings are Nina Smith and Oscar Smith.

From looking at the 1880 census, I could not find the family of Jesse Bowman Smith as my wife's grandmother recalls them. However I did find Jessie B Smith (2 years old), s/o Samuel & Fannie Smith living in Glasgow, Beaver County.

I looked at the 1900 Beaver County census, and I found the family of Samuel & Fannie Smith in Ohio Township, Beaver County. Children listed are Mabel and Nina Smith. Interestingly Samuel & Fanny is living next door to a Jesse Smith, widower born 1818. I've not found the family of Samuel & Fanny Smith at all on the 1910 census. Jesse Bowman Smith is found on Cuyahoga County, Ohio on the 1900 census, and he married Elizabeth "Bessie" Warner about 1904 there.

I'm thinking Jesse Bowman Smith is actually the son of Samuel Smith & Fanny Kirby, and his grandfather is actually Jesse Smith. However I cannot say that with certainty.

Anyone familiar with the Smith's of Smith's Ferry?

Thanx,
Jim Shreve Sr.

David Newell was born in England in 1849. He moved to the USA in about 1895. He later move to Pennsylvania. In 1941 he went to California to visit with his daughter and was there only two weeks when he died. At the time of his death, he was a resident of New Brighton, PA., and was a member of the Odd Fellows of Ellwood City,PA. I was hoping to find an obituary of his in one of the local papers near New Brighton, since he lived there most of his life. He was a retired minister when he died. If you could help me find his obit, please contact me. Thank you so much. brian

In our studies on the McCabe family we have discovered that one McCabe married into the Levi BOOTH family, so we are including them in our manuscript.

There are probably several of these Booth family members buried in the Beaver Cemetery, at Beaver, PA. Are those cemetery records available online? I know that these records are available somewhere as a very good-hearted genealogist recently sent me a transcription of the McCabe burials at that cemetery, which has included very significant information.

Jim Freed, Delaware, OH
jmfreed@midohio.net
These people are not related to me, but I thought if someone was a relative, they might like to have this information. Names included are Margaret (Maggie) Connor from Harrison St., Pittsburgh who looks like she married a Thomas Knight. There are a lot of Skeehan's: John Leonard, Margaret Rose, Elizabeth, Edward James are just some names. I also have a marriage invitation for Anna Elizabeth McCarthy to J. Lester Blayney on 1.26.1910. The Skeehan's lived at one point in Baden, PA. If anyone is interested in this info, please contact me and I will be happy to send it to you.

I've been trying to find a Laughlin in the Allegheny County area who might be interested in trading information with me, so far without success. My Robert Laughlin first showed in the Octararo Creek, Lancaster County PA area in 1752. William Laughlin was there around the same time. I believe they were brothers. I believe I have traced William's descendents to the Washington , Allegheny and Beaver County areas.

Hal Laughlin
Hello,

I am looking for anyone who has or has access to the following book: Tax Records, 1841-1850, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, by Helen G. Clear. I am looking for my ancestor John King, who was in Shenango Twp., Lawrence Co., in the 1850 census. He was just south of New Castle in what would have been Beaver Co. prior to 1849. I'm trying to find out if he was there before 1850.

Thanks,
Bill

Hello everyone, I need help looking for my sherrill family. Charles Sherrill and Hattie Lillian Carswell 1871-1947 who migrated from North Carolina some time after 1930. Hattie may have come here by herslelf with her children because I can't find any death records of Charles in Pa. I have reason to believe that Hattie may have even re-married. They had several children; Julius 1907-1948 (Was killed in a bar fight), Henry 1897-1986, Luther 1899-1982, Alfred 1902-2003, Virgil 1912-1999, and a daughter, Elda 1901-1956. Virgil married Elnora Berresford who recently passed away in 04 (she was the county noterary). If anyone has any information on these poeple please let me know. I have been researching this specific family for some time now. Several people in my family have been with no luck on finding any clues to there life before they came to Pa. Thank you all so much, Angela.

Interested in any tidbits for the Godard/Goddard family of Beaver County, circa 1798-1810. I am looking for the parents of Ebenezer, Jabez, Anson, all b. during this time.I have reason to believe they were in this county at time of births. Any clues are greatly appreciated as I am researching on behalf of my 91 year old mother.

Thanks so much,
Julie

Have you ever wished you knew more of your grandparents lives before they came to America? Have you asked your parents only to be told it was never discussed?
Beaver County was the destination of many Donauschwaben who joined friends and family who emigrated earlier. My grandmother was a teenager when she, her father, stepmother and half sister arrived and lived in Ambridge with an uncle and his family. Unfortunately only my grandmother remained in America.
I never dreamed it would be possible to find my maternal ancestors. But...I did....thanks to the dedication of DVHH volunteers; and list members, who share information daily.

If you want to find out where you got your "Talents", do what I did. I encourage you to check out www.dvhh.org/. Take the first step into the world of your ancestors.
I'm looking for any information re David Charles Evans, b. 17 Dec 1891 in Wales. As a young man he went to Pennsylvania, and lived in Beaver Falls, PA for the rest of his life, I think. I believe his wife's name was Anna Brooks. He would probably be my mother's first cousin. We have a letter that he wrote to his niece in Wales in late 1968, so we know he still lived there then. If you know anything about him, we'd be delighted to know about it. Thanks.

In family records, I’ve seen reference to both “Old Beaver Cemetery” and "New Beaver Cemetery”. However, on the GNIS (Geographical Names Information Service) only the “Beaver Cemetery” name is used. Am I correct in assuming that what is referred to as “New Beaver” is actually the Beaver Cemetery located on the west side (?) of Beaver, PA? Where was the Old Beaver Cemetery located, and were any of the graves and markers moved to the “New Beaver Cemetery”?

Jim Freed, Delaware, OH
jmfreed@midohio.net
David McCoy offspring information from the 1800s.

helping uncle John Stevenson in summer helping with the farm work in Bulger, and with his Uncle and Aunt, James and Elizabeth McCoy Douds at Beaver
where he attended school at Piersol's Academy,
James drove an ice cream wagon during the warm days, James helped with the work at the Doud's home farm}. Ed, the youngest of the three, remained with his grandmother,
Jane Leitch McCoy and his Aunt Agnes S. McCoy (2) who never m. and continued to live with her mother as long as the mother lived. She subsequently inherited the old homestead. Edward eventually inherited the greater part of the place following Agnes death.

David took one of his young sons for a hike in the mountains one fine balmy day. When they had spent an enjoyable afternoon far into the rocky hills a sudden blizzard trapped them without warm clothing, and the wind and snow were so heavy they had to find a cleft in the rocks and bed down for the night. David removed his own light coat and coveed his son who probed little worse for the experience, but the father developed a heavy chest cold, also "lung fever" from which he did not recover. He is buried in the old Minneapolis Cemetery at Minneapolis, Colo. A stone was place on his grave many years ago by the two children of his youngest son Clarence D. McCoy, David A. and his sister Mary Margaet McCoy.
Obituary of Thomas TOWNSEND [1861PA-1931IN]

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, June 4, 1931, Volume LV, Number 31, Page , Column , “DEATH’S HARVEST. TOWNSEND.” [Transcribed on December 2, 2007 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.]

Thomas TOWNSEND, son of Harvey and Elizabeth (DAWSON) TOWNSEND, was born at Georgetown, {Beaver County,} Pennsylvania, April 1, 1861 and departed this life at his home in Taylor township, May 13, 1931, aged seventy years, one month and twelve days.
He came to Indiana with his parents when a small lad and they located on a farm in Taylor Township, four miles south of Bloomfield. Here he lived with his brothers and sisters and mother until manhood, having lost his father when he was but nine years of age.
On November 24, 1888, he was married to Hattie COCHRAN, daughter of James and Eliza COCHRAN. Five children were born to this union—four sons and one daughter. They are Marvel TOWNSEND, of Newberry; Beverly TOWNSEND, deceased; Rodney TOWNSEND, Indianapolis; Mrs. Goldie YORK, Newberry and Teddie TOWNSEND, at home.
In 1910 he united with the United Brethren Church at Bethany, under the pastorate of Rev. Perry KEY, which membership he was faithful to the end.
Tom, as all knew him best, was always ready to go to the aid of his neighbors and friends, believing in the Golden Rule, “Do Unto Others As You Would That They Should Do Unto You.” Will make one honest, kind and good as neighbors ought to be.
In his passing the community has lost one of its best citizens, and the family a very dear companion and father.
He was stricken suddenly at noon on May 13, and passed away the same day at 11:35 p.m., passing as he often wished-without suffering and while at work.
He was conscious during his last hours, and told his family and friends that it was the end, but that he was ready to go.
All was done for him that medical skill and loving care of his wife and children could do to stem the hand of death, but it was the will of the Master that he should go, and their assistance was of no avail.
Besides the children named above, his wife also survives; also ten grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, May 17, at 2:00 o’clock from the Scotland Presbyterian Church, with the pastor of ….
-
NOTE-RLJ: (1) 1880 US CENSUS OF GREENE COUNTY, INDIANA, Taylor Township, Pages 195D&196A, 1 Jun 1880, Dwelling 40, Family 43, Lines 44-50, 1-2: TOWNSEND, William (w, m25, m, Farmer, OH, SCT, PA), Nancy, w, f, 28, Wife, m, Keeping house, PA, PA, ), Louisa (w, f, 2, Dau, IN, PA, PA), Elizabeth (w, f, 59, Mother, Widow, Keeping house, PA, KY, PA), James (w, m, 27, Brother, s, Laborer, VA, PA, PA), Mary Ellen (w, f, 22, Sister, s, at home, PA, PA, PA), Harvey (w, m, 22, Brother, s, Laborer, PA, PA, PA), Thomas (m, w, 18, Brother, s, Laborer, PA, PA, PA), Benona (w, m, 14, Brother, s, Laborer, PA, PA, PA). I have located many Barrett family members in Ridgway and Cameron now but I haven't found any doctors yet (if there are any in my family).

You mentioned you were going to ask your grandfather about the Dr. Barrett you found.
Elizabeth J. McKEE 13 Sep 1825-25 Nov 1861, wife of David A. McKEE

I am looking for the maiden name and marriage record of Elizabeth J. McKee who is buried in the Old Free Presbyterian Church/Darlington Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery according to "Beaver County, PA Cemetery Records, Vol. III" page 10. Elizabeth was the second wife of my great-grandfather David A. McKee. His Bible contained her death date, but no other information about her. David's first wife died in June of 1859 so my guess is that Elizabeth and David married in 1860 or 1861. David lived in Pulaski, Lawrence Co. from about 1837. He had moved to Pulaski from Shenango, but I don't know which Shenango. Since Elizabeth is buried in Darlington Twp., Beaver Co. and no other McKees are buried in the same cemetery, I guessed perhaps she also married there and that possibly her family was from that county and township. The cemetery record says Age 36 Y 2M 12 D, so I guessed at her birth date. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Nancy Smith

Sidney K. Bliss of Beaver

Does anybody have information on descendants of Rev. Sidney Kidd Bliss and his wife Helen? His parents were Wilbur A. Bliss and Winifred Kidd Bliss of Beaver. Reverend Bliss married Helen Swanson in Pittsburgh in October 1943, and passed away in Fort Myers, Florida in 2002.

One of Helen's brothers was First Lieutenant William Swanson, a World War II MIA. Lieutenant Swanson and my uncle, First Lieutenant Irwin Zaetz, served together on an Army Air Force B-24 aircraft when it disappeared on January 25, 1944 on a flight from their base in south China to another airbase in northeast India. All eight crewmen were declared MIA and eventually presumed dead.

This past December, a private American researcher discovered the wreckage of their aircraft in a remote part of northeast India. My family, including Lieutenant Zaetz's sole surviving brother Larry (my father), have been attempting to locate surviving relatives of the crewmen to notify them of the discovery of the wreckage. Any surviving relatives could donate DNA samples to assist in the identification of remains. An obituary of Rev. Bliss would be especially helpful.
