Link between Harkness and Gillett

Surnames: Harkness, Gillett, West
Helping a friend research an ancestor who may or may not have been born in Ohio. Definitely died in Ohio but his full name is Harkness Gillett. Bradford is one of the few areas where both surnames are found and I was wondering if anyone knew of a link (marriage or otherwise). Thanks,
