Maybe there is a connection. My greatgrandfather, William Carter Vandegrift, born April 1866/6, bucks. Pa. He was the 7th son of a 7th son (told its an old Pa good luck in life expression) of Edward Vandegrift and Sarah Carter (born respectively 18332 &1831)Bucks, Pa. Sarah Carter, on her marriage to Edward Vandegrift, gives David Carter and Mary as her parents names. Sarah born in Middletown, Bucks, Pa.
My grandmother, (dec.)that there was a Quaker connection on her fathers side. I am trying to find a church to place my gggrandparents in-so I can continue research that I just got curious again-with the internet and all. I can get back to the 1500's, properly documented on my Dad's side- would love to get somewhere on my Mom's Pa. side. Anyway, perhaps some of your research might assist me and any information would be appreciated. I figure perhaps William Carter, was given that name being named for someone in the line...
Thanks, Dean Reinauer

your posting interests me. Specifically at this time- David.
Okay, I have a gggrandmother, Sarah whom was married in Dec 1853, Middletown, Bucks, Pa to Edward Vandegrift. In a record I perused on an IGI record, indicates her parents names were David Carter and Mary. I came across a Sarah Carter, residing in in the home of Jacob & Malvina Van Horn, Middletown Twp, Bucks in the 1850 census. Now, my ggggrandparents, Jonathan Vandegrift and Martha, had younger children within a halfpage of that find. My gggrandfather, Edward, was one of many children of Jonathan and Martha- but is not included in this 1850 household. Wondering what if any the connection may be between Sarah Carter (maybe dau. of David H born 1797 and Mary Ann Van Horn? Seeing if they fit into my line, Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Hi Bill. Thanks for your message. Since I perused the census
of 1850 to find Sarah Carter, and saw an IGI record stating she
was the daughter of David Carter and Mary, as you provide Mary Van Horn. What church did you find the record at?
I know that the Carter line had some Quaker roots;really trying
to see if David and Mary raised their children Quaker or other,
and if Sarah in turn might have married Edward Vandegrift-
wondering where the Quaker aspect broke off vs my grandmother being raised Presbyterian. I am really into broad based genealogy as you might be able to guess. any assistance is appreciated. THANKS

Dean, the data is from a Palmer family genealogy, not from church records.
I can tell you that Sarah Carter & Edward Vandegrift were not married in a church, they wed at the residence of William Praul, who was the husband of Rachel Carter (Sarah's sister).
The Prauls lived in/near Hulmeville, Bucks County.
Whether or not it was a Friends' ceremony, I cannot say.

I have five children for Sarah/Edward; Amos, Alonzo, John, Albert, William, & Annie. Do you know spouses, children for them?

Bill, thank you, thank you, thank you! Sarah and Edward had
eight children. My "file" is sitting in at home, while I type this from my office in the middle of a snowstorm. Anyway, yes
I do have some names, and do have a few names of spouses/
of the children. I promise to forward that off to you--hopefully by next week. Any chance there was parents or witness for Edward,? Looking to confirm wether or not his parents were
Jonathan V and Martha- which I saw in an IGI record. i am descended from William Carter, born 1866/7. He married twice, and I am descended from his second wife-Do have data on the first wife. Dean

I know Sarah was married 1853, and I have she was born
1831. I was wondering if you might actually have a birthdate and month for Sarah Carter, daughter of David Carter and Mary Van Horn

I believe that James Carter b 1825 married Mary E Slater. I have a sheet from a ledger that the family wrote that has his birth and death dates, along with his wife, Mary and their children.
