HEFFLEY, Tom Huey 1891-1927 Hero saved lives in Johnstown

Looking for any articles or obituary that substantiates this story. January 28, 1927. The incident for Tom Huey was not flood related. He was was a book keeper for a coal company. The mine was at the top of the hill/mountain, the office Tom worked in about the middle of the hill with the town below. A coal car, loaded broke loose [runaway] & was headed down the track to the town where it would have than crashed causing untold death & destruction. Tom apparently saw the car coming, so he I would imagine as you would have had to do in those days go to the tracks where there were levers that would divert the cars to other tracks that did not go into the town. The coal car was headed directly to the town. He saved the town by switching the tract but was killed in the process. Had to know the danger.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Bob Heffley

I also have his W.W.I.draft registration showing him in Conemaugh. I lost him after Denton, MD. Can anyone help with leads or a dod please?

Looking for any photos of parents' marriage in Johnstown, PA on November 7, 1920. Peter Joseph HEFFLEY (1889-1962) married Leona STUDENY (1900-1975). It is ususual that nobody can locate any photos since dad had 7 brothers and mom had 2 sisters, many of whom would have been at the wedding. Leona lived on Rose St in the 8th ward at the time. Peter was in WWI and returned to JT on 5/29/1919. While abroad, he sent mail to Mrs. George Hershberger at 111 Chapin St. (this is Lillian Studeny, my mom's sister.) Any help is appreciated.

I'm trying to locate information about Mary Adams who married John Will. The information that I have is that she was born in 1792 in Tyrone, Huntingdon, PA. Her parents were possibly Joseph Adams and Elizabeth Haines. She married John Will on April 12, 1819 at St. Michael's Church in Loretto, Cambria County. They were married by Father Gallitzin and had 8 children. She is probably the Mary Will in the 1880 Census of Allegheny Township, Cambria County. I can't find a death date or location, or any other information about her. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

St. John's Lutheran Cemetery/Summerhill/ Photo Request

Would someone be willing to take a couple photos of my G-Grandmother and her son's gravesites in St.John's Lutheran Cemetery in Summerhill, and send them to me.

The graves are those of Sarah A. Hice b. 1837/8 and died 1875, but I think the grave marker may say, or appear to say, died in 1873. And the other is W.W. Lloyd died, 1893.

I will gladly pay for any photos, your time and trouble as well.

Thanks.

Jackson Lloyd

Noon, of Richland Township, died Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, aged seventy-four years. The cause of his death was paralysis.
I am a descendent of John Platt, Sr. who lived to be 102, death being 1850. I have a copy of the family tree that Charles Vignos did in 1950? or so. My sisters and I have been researching the Born family and all its connections for 10 years so have gathered a lot of information but still have many pieces to fill in. We have very little info. on the Farrell family and would appreciate anyone with info. on them. We are willing to share what we have on the Platts, etc.
We generally travel to Cambria Co. each year to ascertain more info. Most of what we need is before court records and need to depend on church/cemetery records or other family trees that others have put together.
Thanks to anyone willing to share their past family records.
Gwen (Beck) Seeman

I have a deed dated 1901 in which describes a lot in the High Hill Cemetery. I believe this is the Sell Berkley Cemetery but am having difficulty proving it. I was at the courthouse last week but they were not able to offer any help. The deed is from father to son. It describes the lot but not in terms of ownership. Any help in how I can pinpoint the location of this? If this is for the family lot then the Sell Berkley has yet another name it was known by.

Blough - Johnstown, Pa

I am searching for information on my great grandmother.

Her name was Flora Emma Blough, d/o Henry and Caroline (Sala) Blough. She married Albert Michael Miller in 1917. They were both previously married. Albert was married to Minnie (Baer?) and had 4 children: Clyde, Gertrude, Walter, and Robert. Flora was married to an unknown Weaver and had a son Ivan in 1915. Once married they had: Therman (1917), Dorothy (Simmons)in 1919 (my grandmother), Louis in 1921, and Wilber.

I have found this family in the 1920 census but cannot find them on the 1930 census. I know they attended church at Walnut Grove and my dad believes they lived in the same area.

Albert Michael Miller died in 1934 and I believe he is burried in Grandview. Flora married again to an unknown Emerick. Flora died approx 1967.

The information I keep finding says her name was Emma H Blough and had a sister Flora A Blough but from my information that is not correct. Can anyone help me shed some light on this?

I'm looking for information on Cambria County residents, Thomas Brannigan and his wife Mary Ellen Gallagher, as well as on their daughter-in-law Rosella Coughenour (daughter of Newton and Ada Baker Coughenour).

I think Thomas and Mary Ellen were married ca. 1880 (give or take five years), and that Thomas might have been from Dublin. Would like to know where in Ireland both were from, and any other information about them.

Their granddaughter, Julia, was baptised in the St. John Gualbert's Co-Cathedral in 1916. So that might be a starting point. Does anyone know if the cathedral records are accessible?

And were there any other highschools (Catholic?) in/near Johnstown, other than Reade?

Many thanks, and especial thanks to the site owners and managers. It's wonderful to have so much information available!
They lived in Richland Twnship. Dorothy was my grandmother.

I remember her stories and I THINK...

Flora Emma Blough's children from 1st marriage to unknown Weaver:
Ivan Weaver- abt 1915

Albert Miller's children from previous marriage to unknown mother:
Gertrude Miller
Walter Miller
Robert Miller
Arthur Miller

Albert Miller died while my grandmother was still a child. I am not sure when or where he is burried and I don't know who his parents were.

Flora Emma Blough married a 3rd time to unknown Emerick.

I am trying to find out how all these people really fit into my tree! Can anyone shead a little light on this for me? I would greatly appreciate it!
