I am still trying to determine the parentage of Sarah Meeks/Meaks/Meeks b 12 Aug 1833 in Chester County, Pa m William Hollingsworth 26 Mar 1857 in Wayne County, IN and d 16 Jan 1915 in Chicago, Illinois. I believe her parents could be Joseph and Mary Hill/Hall Meeks but can find no record of it. On the 1850 Census there is a Sarah Meakes, age 17, living with the family of William Passmore in West Marlborough Twp, Chester County, PA. Does anyone know who this Sarah Meakes is and if/how she is related to the Passmore family.

Hello
Type in civil war pension records on your computer. They are at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. There is a form to send to get them. I received tons of genealogy information from these records on my civil war gr gr grandfather and his widow such as birth death birth of all children, where born, where buried, etc it well worth it. What exactly are you looking for about Isaac Harper and his wife? I have been researching over 30 years, so if you give me what you want, perhaps I can get you the answers!
Don

If you park two blocks north (looking Right from the front door, parking is free for 2 hours- but that is strickly enforced, so move every 1:45 to avoid a ticket. (wipe off the chalk on the tire, too.)

There is nothing 'on-line'. Although you said you went to the arcives, their site is http://dsf.chesco.org/archives/cwp/view.asp?a=3&q=609990 and they do have a limited on line search capability. It won't produce details, just the fact the information exists. Good luck.

It the attached tombstone image at Upper Octoraro Presbyterian Cemetery is the guy, he was born 1766 and died 1840.
Hi Robin
If you notice, all the Teals are buried in the same plot. Elizabeth died May 1864 age 63 and from the obit, she was buried from son George M Teal's home. If you look at the 1850 census, you will see that James R Teal is same household as Elizabeth and George M. Also buried in that plot is George Teal who died May 3, 1835 and in the obit it says preacher of the Methodist Episcopel Church. Also notice in the plot is Rev Ellis Teal.
Don

This is reply to Karen Massey 2007.

Karen, cannot believe I missed this one however hope this gets to you regarding 'Maberry (Mayberry) Massey...

Still have not been able to pin down his parentage or place of birth. You have at least answered the birthdate question (1811) so that is a plus which I appreciate.

Margaret did remarry after the divorce. Her new husband's name was John Study and they also had children.

Margaret and Jesse had two children, William (1846) who died at about 2 years of age and is buried in the Baptist Cemetery. She was pregnant or just had daughter Ruth America (1848) when she ran away from Jesse to her parents where she stayed until remarriage. Daughter Ruth when 12 went to live with Grandfather Mayberry in Illinois until she married John W Hart.

I have the divorce papers for Margaret and Jesse (he divorced her 1854 I think). Papers imply she left a wonderful home, husband and father. My family implies something much different. The fact that their son was buried in a non-Quaker cemetery is telling.

I have a wonderful picture of Ruth and John Hart in their later years. She adored him, wrote a beautiful sentiment on his gravestone.

Dixie

will take a look at the CCHS next time I visit. Obit may provide location of immigration and/or burial site.

I suspect you aren't going to find birth records until you get back to Ireland. Marriage records may be available after some looking around. Can I assume Roman Catholic?

The 1900 census shows James as being born 10/1839, and shows Mary being born 5/1836. (slightly diffrent than what you posted) Jennie Ford, aged 4, is a granddaughter living with them. Jennie was born in Pa 5/1896.

danoh19344@hotmail.com

Thanks to all for your help. I am looking for information on my great-grandmother’s family that lived in Phoenixville from the mid 1800’s. Her name was Sarah Lawler (b.1871). She married Stephen Morris (son of Bernard & Frances Morris). There were many related Morris families and there was a “double relationship” with the Sarah Lawler & the Morris family.

John Morris (maybe a brother to Bernard) married Mary Ann Lawler in 1868 and had 10 children. They lived on St. Mary’s Street. The last child that I can find was Esther Morris-Mullin who passed away in 1952. I believe Mary Ann Lawler may have been an aunt to Sarah Lawler.

There was an Edward Lawler also from Phoenixville who died in 1918 and had several children who may have stayed in the town.

I would like to find out more about these families. I believe they all lived in the North Ward, per the census records.

I will definitely check out the Historical Society of The Phoenixville Area.

Mike
Hello All,

I just received the following reply from the Historical Society of The Phoenixville Area:

We do not have records from the McFadden Funeral Home. Over the years our volunteers have attempted to find and obtain these records. But, as of this time we don't know where they are. If you come across them we would be very interested in knowing the specifics.

I will continue the search. Thanks to everyone!

Mike

i just talked to another resident of Phoenixville. He said he believes the records are at The Historical Society of The Phoenixville Area (new name). They have the records from other closed funeral homes. The McFadden building still stands at Gay and Washington, but they are no longer in business.

The Historical Society is in an old Lutheran church and is only open on Sunday and Wednesdays from 12 to 3 so you may have a hard time reaching them (according to the fellow I just spoke with). Good luck to you!

Thank you for your kind reply. I am close enough to West Chester to make the visit to the Historical Society. I was hoping to find someone who had done previous work on James and Mary, and could point me on to what might help me trace them in Ireland. James shows up with various dates of birth, depending on the census year; 1836, 1839, 1840 but I have chosen to use the date from his headstone in Saint Agnes Cemetery, which is 1835. I have found a possible ship, the "Tonawanda", with the name James Redmond on the passenger list and the date of 1858 corresponding to the immigration date claimed on some census years but I cannot prove that this is the correct James Redmond.

Looking for information on immigration. marriage and birth records for James Redmond, born 1835 in Ireland, thought to have immigrated in 1858 to Newlin Township to work as farm labor and died in West Chester in 1904. Married to Mary Lawler who immigrated in 1860, having been born in Ireland in 1833. Together they had twelve children. I am particularly interested on getting a clue as to their origins in Ireland, so that I can begin searching Irish records. Other information on Watson - Gaffney - Redmond - Horstmann family tree on Ancestry.com.

I found him in the 1840 census and he does have a female of her age living with him. There was another William McKim in Salsbury Chester county but I do not think that one is her father. I have tried the Chester County Archives but most of the info I found relates to the William from Salsbury.
