WILLIAMSPORT Gwendolyn T. Gwen FRYE, 85, of 326 Cemetery St., Jersey Shore, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999 at ManorCare North in Williamsport, where she had been a guest for less than a month.
Born Feb. 22, 1914 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of the late Adelbert E. and Sarah Blanche WATSON THOMPSON.
She and Charles M. FRYE were married May 30, 1937, in the old German Lutheran Church in Jersey Shore. He survives.
She graduated from the former Central State Normal School, now Lock Haven University, in 1934. She then taught grades five through eight at Home Camp in Clearfield.
From 1948 to 1956, she taught kindergarten at the Jersey Shore YMCA. She then taught elementary school at the former Porter Township School in Jersey Shore for 22 years until her retirement from the Jersey Shore School District in 1978.
She was a charter member and former past royal matron of the Tiadaghton Court Order of Amaranth No. 136 of Jersey Shore and a past district deputy of the Amaranth. She was a member for 52 years and a past worthy matron of the Ivanhoe Chapter No. 26 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. FRYE was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Jersey Shore.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Thomas W. of Brentwood, Tenn.; a daughter, Jacqueline RUTH of Walworth, N.Y.; a sister, Iva WALTER of Oxford; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
