I am looking for the roots of my ancestor Jacob Tyson (1809-90). I know that he married an Elizabeth (1806-97), and moved to Clinton Co., Pa., sometime between 1825-37. He bought land in Logantownship in 1837. They had four children, all of whom are buried in Sugar Valley, along with their parents. Does anyone know where Jacob Tyson lived before he came to Clinton Co.? Or who his parents were? Thanks VERY much! JRT

Re: Garman Church Cemetery

I am looking for more information on the following families, some of whose members are buried at the Garman Lutheran Church in Clinton Co., PA.

KISSELL\\VANAMAN S.A. (Sarah Ann?) Vanaman born ca 1838 in New Jersey, daughter of Luke Vanaman and Anna Hewitt. Married Albert Kissell. Their infant daughter is buried in the Garman Lutheran cemetery next to the Vanaman graves. Date of death 23 Jan 1863.

VANAMAN\\HEWITT Both buried at Garman: Luke Vanaman, born 15 Oct 1789, married to Anna Hewitt 8 Feb 1812 in Cumberland Co., NJ, died 28 Jun 1859. Anna Hewitt Vanaman, died 11 Sep 1860.

VANAMAN\\NEYHART Levi Vanaman, born 26 Jun 1827 in NJ, died 22 Aug 1870. Buried at Garman. His wife, Maria Neyhart, daughter of Eli Neyhart and Julia Grace, lived in several townships near Pine Creek in Lycoming Co. Her burial location is unknown.

VANAMAN\\BERGER Edward Neyhart Vanaman, son of Levi Vanaman and Maria Neyhart, born 27 Apr 1869, in Torbet, Watson Twp, Lycoming Co., married Della Nancy
BERGER, daughter of John and Catherine Berger, born Oct 1899. Edward grew up along Pine Creek. The Bergers lived in Mifflin Twp, Lycoming Co. Edward's daughter thought the Bergers were somehow connected to the Garman Lutheran Church. Cannot find the name of John Berger's father or Catherine Berger's maiden name.. I wonder if the name Berger might have been shortened from Eckelberger, or Eichelberger.

I have just disccovered a new line in my family group: WITHINGTON. This name surfaced in the early 1800's when Margaret Withington married Daniel Jones. The couple lived out their adult lives in Venango Co. But...there is no mention of a Withington Family in Venango Co. records. Most of my related lines all came from Clinton Co. before moving on to Venango Co. Therefore...I am making the giant step and assuming her family may have come from Clinton also.

Daniel R. Haynes & Agnes McCloskey

Guess there are a lot of McCloskeys in Clinton Co. so maybe someone can help on this one.

I saw an LDS-IGI file which has Daniel Ramson Haynes married Agnes Wilmina McCloskey, 1862 Lock Haven, Clinton County, PA. They were the parents of James Clarence Haynes born 10 Jun 1874 Lock Haven, PA. Daniel supposingly was born 25 Nov 1842 in Rushford, Allegany Co. NY the son of James Haynes and Eva Jensen. Sometimes LDS files aren't very accurate and it is difficult to determine exactly where the information comes from initially. I have found this JAMES HAYNES family in the census of Allegany County, NY 1850 & 1855, but haven't found anything in Clinton Co. PA that connects with them.
I am interested in hearing from anyone who might have information about Mary. She(according to a very sketchy and hard to read autobiography by my grandfather)was born in Lock Haven in about 1863 and married a William Bader who was from Williamsport in about 1884. They moved to Williamsport or South Williamsport after marriage and had one child, John Bernard Bader(b. 1886), my grandfather. She died in about 1887 during childbirth of a second child. William Bader, soon after his wife's death moved to Baltimore, Maryland.

Any information you might have or could lead me to re: my great grandmother would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance for your response.

Jack S. Bader
On March 9, 1888, my grandfather, Clarence Aikey, was adopted in Clinton County by Irvin and Ella Aikey. I have a copy of the adoption certificate. The woman who gave him up for adoption was Ada Reynolds. No father is given. My grandfather's adoption has been a dead end in my genealogy research on my father's side of the family.

I have no information on Ada Reynolds except for the adoption paper and very little information on Irvin and Ella Aikey. There is a reference in the 1910 census of Clarence living with his mother, Ella, in Patton, PA. That's about it. My grandfather did not tell his children about his adoption. My father, also Clarence, found out about it by accident.

Does anyone have a suggestion how I may be able to track down Ada Reynolds, Irvin and Ella Aikey in Clinton County ca. 1880's?
Grugan & other Clinton Co. Families - Research & Reunion 2007

Attention all Clinton, Cameron and adjacent county family researchers. On July 29, 2007 there will be a one time only reunion held in Lock Haven for the descendants of Charles Grogan/Grugan and the Grugan and Allied Families. Charles was a Revolutionary War veteran and settled in the Buffalo Valley around 1780. He died young and his wife re-married moving to what is now Clinton County. His daughter married into the Mason family and his sons settled around Glen Union, Pennsylvania. Their descendants are now spread throughout the country. We hope to publish a family history at some point after this event and would like to include as much updated information as possible. Please visit www.gruganfamily.com for all the details. ALL descendants and relatives are invited to attend – your last name doesn’t have to be Grugan and all the names below are family plus many more! In an effort to reach as many people as possible I am including a list of surnames associated with our family, it is not all inclusive.
I am trying to find out the location of "Block House" in Clinton County. It is supposedly where my Frey ancestors settled when they came to America circa 1827-1830. I know that Clinton County was not formed till 1839, but the clue I have lists Block House as being in Clinton County.

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Leanne Toth

I am trying to find his parents, siblings, etc.
He was born and lived his whole ilife in Pa.
This is what I know:

Joseph H. Venatta was born April 1837 in Pa.

In 1860, he is 23, living with Mary E. (presumably Margaret Bodle) age 20 and their daughter Mary Naomi Vannatta age 2.
Beech Creek, Clinton County.

On Aug 19, 1861 he enlists with Company A of the 49th PA Regiment, Infantry for two years, 2 months, 27 days until Oct 3 1862.

On Sept 1, 1864 he enlists with Company B of the 210th PA Regiment, Infantry until May 30 1865. On Oct 8, 1864 his daughter Alice Elma Vannatta is born.

His daughter Mary Naomi Vannatta dies in 1867, at age 9.

In 1870 he is 32 and living with Alabama,(presumably Alabama White widow of Joseph Poorman)(maiden name White) age 30 and their son Henry Vanetta age 9. This would mean that Henry was born about 1861, three years after Mary Naomi Vanatta is born, while he was still (presumably) married to Margaret.
Boggs, Centre County.

It is possible that He was married to Margaret from 1858 to 1861, then to Alabama.
However Alice Vanetta was born in 1864.

So, was he married to Margaret when Henry was conceived or was he married to Alabama when Alice was conceived? It seems it may be one or the other. Marriage records here would help.

In 1880 he is still living with Alabama.
Renovo, Clinton County.

In 1890 hi is listed on the veterans schedule.
Renovo, Clinton County

IN 1898 Alabama dies.

In 1900 he is living with Poorman nieces and nephews.
Renovo, Clinton County.

In 1910, miracode index, he is living with wife Elizabeth R. (unknown)
Lock Haven, Clinton County.

In 1919 he dies married to Elizabeth unknown, while living in Millersville, Lancaster County.

Any and all help would be appreciated!

Please feel free to e-mail me directly.
PennyDeMora@verizon.net
Thanks!
Penny
I am looking for information on Hiram R. Whitcomb who appears in the 1880 census for Lock Haven as a clothing merchant. His wife is a widow by 1900 living with three of her six children in New Hampshire. The other three children, all of whom were probably born in Lock Haven, were:
Clinton Whitcomb, b 1877, d. 2 Sept. 1881
Leslie Whitcomb, b 27 Oct. 1882, d. 18 March 1883
Normand Whitcomb, b and d. 5 Sept. 1888

Hiram died sometime between 1892 and 1900. I am trying to find out if he and his three children died in the Lock Haven area and if so are they buried there.

Steve
Seeking parents names and death date for George H. Eyer. According to the 1900 census he was living in Clinton Co., Pa. with his wife Della M. Raudabaugh, child and mother in law. They had 5 children and were divorced before 1920; Della re-married to Daniel Ilgen. George & Della's marriage record states his mothers name was Sarah Wolf/e. Is anyone related to this Eyer line? Who was George H. Eyer's father?

Leidy Township - Clement Saw Mill - Madison Beeler

Does anyone have a map of Leidy Township showing where the Clement Saw Mill was located in 1860 who could scan and email it to me? When my great-grandfather, Madison James Beeler, received his citizenship he listed Moses Clement as a person who knew him for at least 5 years. I can't find Madison on the 1860 census, but Moses is listed as a lumberman. I am guessing that Madison worked for him. My email is Genealogy60178@aol.com.

Am also looking for early marriage and death records, say between 1850-1860. Family lore said Madison married but his wife died young and he left their baby with her parents and went to WI.

Just found this board, and would like some help with my family tree.
My father was Ray Gordon WOLFE, b: 23 Sep 1925. His mother was Leah CHAPMAN, b: 17 May, 1908. I have been told she was not married to my Dad's father, who is supposed to have been a John WOLFE, from McElhattan, PA. I have no information on John Wolfe at all.
Leah Chapman's parents were supposedly Samuel CHAPMAN and Lottie HOOVER; again, I have no info on them.
Leah Chapman later married Raymond CROAK, and later still, Lawrence PACKER. All of the aforementioned persons are deceased. I do have death dates for Ray Wolfe, Ray Croak, Leah and Lawrence Packer.
What I am looking for is birth/marriage/death dates, possible origins, parentage. I was born in Lock Haven, as was my mother, but I'm not sure about my father.

Jeanne Heisey was the first wife of Samuel Morse Heisey. They were married about 1914, and either divorced or she died between 1942 and 1948, when he married his second wife, Cora L. Frey. Jeanne is listed on the Census as Jeanne M. and Jeanne H. On husband Samuel's WWI draft registration in 1918 she is listed as Jeane Hepburn Heisey. In 1920 her mother, Anne L. Mannen or Maune?, was living with them. I don't believe there were any children to this union. Any information on the marrriage would be helpful.

Farwell/Shade Families

I am interested in learning whether or not there is a connection between the family of Johann Sebastiani Schade (born in Germany, 1705 and died in PA in 1780), information on which was contributed to the Clinton County, PA website by Margaret Hardy, and one Pamela or Permelia Shade who married Mr. James Farwell in Clinton County in the 1820s. James and Pamela Farwell had at least 9 children, one of whom (Elizabeth Jane) married Mr. Benjamin Baird of Clinton County.

If anyone knows of such a connection, I would also like to know what that connection is. Thank you.

Stephen Baird Peter
