Correction + Additions: Philip Coyle (b. 1819, County Cavan, Ireland) + wife Julia

More on the Philip Coyle family line I am researching for my significant other: Philip Coyle b. 1819, Cavan Co., Ireland; immigrated about 1834 to Schuylkill Co.; married Julia Duffy (b. abt 1823, Ireland); resided mostly in Schuylkill Co. Philip and Julia Duffy's children, all probably born in Schuylkill Co.: Patrick (b. abt 1847; must have died in childhood before 1859), Edward (b. abt 1849), Michael (b. abt 1854), Mary (b. abt 1855), Philip (b. May 1858), Patrick (b. abt 1860), John J. (b. 10 Nov 1863; among other things, he served in the Pennsylvania State Assembly; biography up to 1893 found in Biographical and Portrait Cyclopedia of Schuylkill County Pennsylvania); Julia (b. abt. 1865).

The family lived for a few years in Conyngham, Columbia Co., according to the 1870 census.

Most particularly, I'm following the line of Philip and Julia Duffy Coyle's son, Philip (b. May 1858) and his wife, Elizabeth (b. 1858, Pennsylvania - her father, surname unknown, was born in Scotland). By 1910 Philip and Elizabeth Coyle had moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thank you in advance, for any information or leads.

I am researching the Casey family who lived in a patch town called Germantown between Centralia and Ashland about 1860 to 1880. I was wondering if anyone knows if pictures exist of this patch town. The road is still there on the maps I have looked at. I'm not sure if the road had a name then but it is currently called Snake Road. I was blessed to have a Grandmother with a great memory who gave me a hand up with my research.

George & Mary Ann Washburn show up in the 1860 census again in Greenwood Township. They were married in 1850 presumably in Greenwood Township, but I have been unable to find a record. George also shows up on a Civil War Draft list in 1865; however, the war ended before he was mustered in. They are in Warren County, NJ in the 1870 census. 4 of 5 children were born before their move to Warren.

Hi,

I am looking for very early church records in the vicinity of what was then Bloom Twp, Northumberland County (now Columbia County).

I have information that George and Elizabeth Bellas immigrated from Belfast, Ireland with their family and settled in Bloom Twp in 1790. They were said to be strict Presbyterians.

George Bellas wrote a will in 1811 that mentions a daughter Nancy Murlin. I would like to find a marriage record for George's daughter Nancy, to investigate the possibility that she married a William Murlin probably before 1800.

Can anyone point me toward any early available church records (hopefully including Presbyterian records) in the area around Bloom Twp or around Fishing Creek Twp where the Murlins were living at the time.

Linda
Since I wrote the message in this string in 2002 I learned more about the Bodine family founded by Jacob and Nancy Bodine. That information is found on rootsweb. Matilda could not be descended from them as all their male children were either dead or moved to Canada by the time that Matilda was born. I think it is most probable that her father was Peter Bodine who lived in this same area at the time of Matilda's birth. Peter and Jacob do not appear to be closely related, if at all. Here is Dave's website information on her:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bodine/n18...

Philip Coyle (b. abt 1812, Ireland) + wife Julia (b. abt. 1823, Ireland) - Conynhham, Columbia Co.

Hello - I am reseaching this family line for my significant other. I have tracked down a paternal branch of his family to PHILIP COYLE (b. abt 1812, Ireland) and his wife JULIA (b.abt 1823, Ireland.) They resided in East Norwegian, Schuykill Co. in 1850. I have found the 1850 Census listing them plus their two children (at the time), PATRICK (b. abt 1847, Pennsylvania) and EDWARD (b. abt 1849, Pennsylvania.) I have also found the family in the 1860 (still in East Norwegian, name misspelled "Coil") and 1870 census (living in Conyngham Township, Columbia Co.) A bit of family lore is that EDWARD COYLE was a coal miner involved with the Molly Maguires. There was a "Molly" named EDWARD COYLE who was killed, but I don't know if Philip and Julia's son, Edward, was the same one as the Molly Maguire Edward Coyle. I'd love to get in contact with anyone researching this COYLE family line. Thank you. -- Jean

Tina

Clark Burns, according to the 1900 census, was born Dec 1873. Clark married Mary Elizabeth Grasley (20 May 1873 - 1934) about 1895. Mary Elizabeth Grasley was my grandmother's older sister. In addition to the children you listed, I believe there was also a son named Harry Forester Burns who was born about 1911. Harry F. shows up in both the 1920 and 1930 census entries as living with his father first in Berwick and then in Detroit City (Michigan).

Grace L. Burns married Leonard L. Hetler around 1925. Grace is buried in the Roselawn Cemetery in Berwick, Columbia Co., PA. Her tombstone shows the dates of her birth and death as 1907 - 1934. She is buried next to her mother Mary E. Burns 1873 - 1934.

Feel free to contact me at my hotmail address.

Lester Dietterick
Reason being that she had seperated and was now living with another man after she had taken care of his sick wife.

In 1910 Jackson Twp, Columbia County, PA census the following is found.

Dallas Driebelbis Head, 62, widow
Zora Johnson Servent, 22, divorced
Pearl ---- Daughter of servant, 2
Clayton, son of servant, 5

Now my great grandmother went by the last name driebelbis or travelpiece. The only one of Dallas children who stayed with the original name Driebelbis was the oldest - the rest changed to Triffelpiece, Travelpiece, etc.

Dallas died in 1911. He left my great-grandmother his youngest child $200 (was listed in his last will and testament) he also left Nora Swisher $25. His property that was not sorted out was to be sold and profit to be split among his children except Nora Swisher.

Clayton was sent to live with his father Fred Swisher and Pearl was given to her 1/2 brother Ed and his wife Carrie to be raised. After that I cannot find where Zora went anywhere. I searched Census, Death, Social Security, Cemetery records, etc.

In 1996 I was driving around the area of the Dallas Dribelbis old farm. I stopped at a house that still had the name Driebelibss Farm along the top of the barn. I had a wonderful interview with a man name Jerry Travelpiece who grew up with my great-grandmother and offered me a lot of info. He did not know what happened to Zora (Dora or Nora) as says in different records.

If anyone on this site can enlighten me with where Zora wondered off to that would be wonderful. A few other mystery people in my family - that seem to disappear to find at a later time.

I am searching for information about a Thomas Sloan b. about 1790 in Ireland who married an Elizabeth Aikman in Columbia County, probably Bloomsburg. I see a number of Sloans as wagon makers and I think this might be my family. Could Thomas be a brother of William? Does anybody know when the Sloan family came to Bloomsburg?
I need help finding information on Harvey D. Knecht, born May 7, 1862, in Catawissa, Columbia County, Pennsylvania. His wife Harriet and him had 6 children. He died on July 10, 1956 in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pa. I know he lived a large part of his life also around Williamsport, Lycoming County. I have found him in the 1880 and 1920 censuses. I have found both spellings, Gneht and Knecht. I am particuarly interested in finding more information about his parents. If you come across anything, post back or email me at chrisginpa@yahoo.com. Thanks for your help.

Chris

I do not know anything about the Troys, but in the 1860 census most of the males are listed as "Dresh", not Thrash. Daniel is in Butler, Luzerne Co., Gideon in (Ringtown) Union, Schuykill Co., Jeremiah "Dress" in Sugarloaf, Luzerne Co. Hope this helps you.
Dear Janet,

Sorry for getting back so late. I have several originals in my family, but they are all in fragile condition. I took the worse one and used it to enter all the data into my family tree program many years ago. I understand that the dates are mostly correct, but some of the personal stories aren't cannon. My great great Aunt Helen Bowman and her cousin spent their senior years researching info from the book. Sadly neither of them were married and most of thier research is lost. Some of it ended up at the Berwick Historical Society but thier records were very jumbled when I was there 2001. The following link is to one of the many publishers who collect, copy and reprint old family histories. They say they have it, and can print you a copy. Let me know how this turns out.

Caorl

http://www.quintinpublications.com/mm5m/merchant.mvc?Store_c...

Re: William Gensel 1836 - 1902, PA

You mentioned that William Gensel's second wife was Mary Huttenstine who died in 1901. Mary Edith (also called Edith Mary) Huttenstine was the wife of William's son, Lloyd Hiram (also called Hiram Lloyd)Gensel. She also died in 1901. Do you have them confused? William's second wife, Mary E., was born Jan 1855 as per 1900 Census. Lloyd Hiram's wife was born in 1868 or 1869. I am a great grandson of Peter Huttenstine, the father of Mary Edith Huttensine.

While looking for my husband's g-g-grandparents in the local cemetery, I was taken by a nearby family headstone. It was for an Isaiah Roseberry,b Aug. 5, 1809 in Columbia Co., Penn and his wife Sarah Ann Creveling b Dec 11, 1813 from Columbia Co Penn. If by chance this is your family, I took photos just because. They came to St. Joseph county, Indiana in 1850 and had eight children including Lemuel who died in 1864 in the Civil War.
