1905 marriage records

Hi,
I am looking for a marriage record from 1905 for Amelia Jecminek and Ivan Supancic. The marriage took place at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Steelton, PA.. Is that church still there, and if so, does anyone have an address for it??
I also tried the vital records site for PA, but it just says that marriage records must be ordered from the county courthouse. I can not find a form on line to fill out for that or a list of prices (just ones for birth and death records). Can anyone help point me in the right direction for that?
Thanks for your help. Kathy

I am seeking any information on the family of Jonas Baker. His wife was Rebecca Lingle. To my knowledge there were three children born to this couple. They were Malinda, Priscilla and Aaron. I believe Jonas died young, as Rebecca married a Samuel Kramer and Malinda and Aaron were still living at home. They are found living together in the 1860 PA census. Any information on ANY of these people would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Bonnie Moore

Sarah Fox Moyer 1809-1896

Sarah Fox Moyer, born 09 Aug 1809, died 26 Oct 1896 (however her will states 1897 and tombstone states 1896. I am inclined to believe that she passed in 1896 as I doubt that the family would have erected the tombstone a year before she died). She married Michael Moyer in 1830 in Hummelstown.

Her parents are currently unknown. I have a strong feeling that her parents were John Fox and Sarah Shonberger who are buried in the old cemetery in Hummelstown. The reason for this is the time frame of children born in relation to the marriage date. John and Sarah were married November 29, 1804 in Derry Pennsylvania#.

In The History of Dauphin County it lists three children of John and Sarah: John, Liberty and Margaret. There is one known omission, and that is Horace who was born January 13, 1807 and died May 25, 1807. So the History of Dauphin County is not completely accurate, though a great resource to guide. According to the baptismal records for Zion Lutheran Church in Hummelstown Sarah is a Polly here. So Sarah may have also been a Polly, or this Horace not part of the John Fox and Sarah Shonberger family.

I would very much like to place my Sarah in this family or find who her parents were.

My ggg grandfather, William Davison MARTIN, was a tailor who lived and maintained a tailor shop at 414/16 North Third Street near the capitol from the early 1840s until the turn of the century. He surely saw President Lincoln's funeral train but what else did he and his family witness? I have not been successful in locating a Harrisburg timeline (preferably online) - would you have one to share? I am also searching for photos. I'd be very glad for help.

My brick wall is Philip Aristide, M.D. who married Catherine MECK in southeastern PA and had daughters, Caroline (b. 1808, Dauphin Co.) and Elisabeth (b. 1811, Dauphin Co.). Daughter Caroline married historian I.D. Rupp in 1827. Her birth record lists her parents as Philip and Catherine ARESTED. I.D. Rupp says Philip De ARISTIDE was a native of France and son of Rev. Wilhelm De Aristide of Crefeld, Rhineland, Germany. I'm not so sure; the surname Aristide is not common in French at the time and I've yet to find it in Germany. I'm wondering if Philip's surname was actually a Spanish (via Cuba) Aresteguieta or Arestegui from Cuba shortened to Aresteg then Arested in Philadelphia before heading to Dauphin County. Family lore suggests some Spanish or Portuguese link.

As there are no boards for surnames Aristide, any leads or suggestions where to search for records would be appreciated.

Searching for someone willing to do look-ups in Halifax/Harrisburg

Hello all,

I am searching for anyone willing to do look-ups of basically any type of record in Halifax or Harrisburg, as I am looking for quite a few. I cannot travel to Dauphin County at the moment and my research list is through the ceiling and has been for months, so completing but one of the tasks would be considerable progress.

First of all, I am searching for a William C. Detweiler, of Harrisburg, born 1857 and died between about 1887 and 1897--my best guess would be the early 1890's. His parents were John S. Detweiler, who died August 16, 1878, and Eunice (Parke) Detweiler. Both father and son were lawyers, and about 1886 William C. Detweiler married a Sarah W. McConnell, born in Halifax in 1862, who later remarried in Northumberland County after William's death. I am hoping someone could check cemetery records or something of the kind; unfortunately I do not know where he was buried, or his religious affiliation, although I suspect his wife may have been Episcopalian.

In Halifax, I am looking for any records on George W. McConnell, born about 1828, and his wife Sarah Marsh, born about 1839. They were the parents of Sarah W. McConnell mentioned above. Sarah Marsh McConnell died between 1862 and 1870, and I believe George W. died about 1863/1864. He may have died in the Civil War, although I have researched this online and can't seem to find any definite record of military service. George W. McConnell was a dealer in wholesale liquor, and livestock. I am also looking for information on John and Elizabeth Marsh, parents of Sarah Marsh, both born about 1813. Elizabeth died after 1880, but most likely before 1890. Sarah W. McConnell also had a brother, William C., born in 1860, who moved to Northumberland County in the 1880's. Also, they had an aunt, Kate Robins, of Northumberland County as well, although I am not certain which side of the family she was related to.

I would very much appreciate any assistance on this!

Thanks,

Val

Does anyone have access to the list of graves there? If so, if you could please tell me either where I can find it online? Findagrave does not have the people I'm looking for, yet I have death records on them from the Dauphin County Historical Society that says they are buried there.

Looking for all Haines and Albright (not the two Albrights that are on Findagrave, however). There are several of each that are supposedly there.

I called the cemetery, they want $25.00 PER NAME (not per hour!) to look up. That is ridiculous. It would cost me less in gas money to drive the two hours and back, and stay a week, for all the people I'm looking for!

Schreiber, Schriver, or Shriver Burials in Harrisburg or southern Dauphin County

Is there anyone here who knows of any burials of Shrivers, Schrivers, or Schreibers in the Harrisburg area or anywhere else in southern Dauphin County?

I am trying to trace several people in my family tree. One possibly being who I think was my great great great grandfather. I thought he was buried in the Halifax area, but a researcher looked through various records for cemeteries and could not one single Schriver, Shriver, or Schreiber.

So I am now guessing that the people I am looking for are buried somewhere in southern Dauphin County.

I believe my great great great grandfather's name might have been George Shriver and his wife might have been a Mary.

My uncle Charles Schreiber is also buried somewhere in Harrisburg and I am clueless as to where. He was born about 1922 and died in the late 60s or early 70s.

Any Schriver, or Shriver, or Schreiber info anyone can supply would be greatly appreciated. I live in Millersburg, Dauphin County, PA and am unable to drive, so I cannot get to Harrisburg to search. I would otherwise constantly be there all the time. :)

1912 eccentric millionaire died

6 Oct 1912, Jacob K. ZIMMERMAN died at The Elms Hotel in Excelsior Springs, Mo., age about 70. He died leaving neither widow nor will but an estate worth more than a million dollars. It read like a serial in the Kansas City Star as people sent their family trees in hopes of proving they were a legitimate heir to the eccentric cattleman. In all, there were twenty-seven heirs, one of whom was my gg grandfather, John Hancock MARTIN (b. 1850 Harrisburg d. 1921 KC), a tailor in Kansas City and "nephew of the half-blood" to Mr. ZIMMERMAN.

One newspaper article (KC Star) said his funeral was to be held in Harrisburg and another (in the Philadelphia Enquirer) said he "was buried at his old home, Hanover, Pa.". I have found no evidence allowing me to document either event. I have twenty newspaper articles but, aside from the one mentioned from Philadelphia, nothing from Pennsylvania. I have sent queries to both Mo. and Pa. departments of vital records but am turning to this board for advice and assistance.

Jacob K. ZIMMERMAN was the son of Hannah (CLARK) MARTIN ZIMMERMAN (1798-1875) who was widowed in 1823 (Thomas D. MARTIN) and remarried to John ZIMMERMAN. Jacob had a half-brother, William Davison MARTIN (1820-1896), and three full-blood sisters; I do have a list of the heirs and hope to sort out the sisters' names. The families seem to have lived for generations in Dauphin and Lebanon Counties.

I would be pleased to have help with this research and thank you for reading about my family history challenge.

I am doing genealogy research on my ancestor Peter Snider. In a book Washington County Tennessee Deeds 1775-1800 there is a section "Land Sales Proven in Court". In the May 1796 term of court, the following entry is recorded:

Peter Snider and his wife, Elizabeth, to John Legsby, 11th part of 206 A. in Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania; Elizabeth was examined separately.

This sounds as if it could be a sell of property inherited or jointly owned by 11 people. I would like to get a copy of this record and any other documents associated with it, especially if it involved settlement of an estate.

Does anyone have information on this transaction or the Snider family?

Can anyone tell me the name of the Episcopal church in Harrisburg in the 1880's, early 1890's, and of the church of that denomination in Halifax, about 1860-1880, if there was one? How can I contact them, if they are still in existence? I am researching the McConnell family of Halifax, primarily Sarah W. McConnell, who married William C. Detweiler of Harrisburg in 1886.

Thanks,

Val

JOHN REIGLE OF HALIFAX TWP
My John Reigle (tombstone and descendant spelling) b. 8/22/1822 d. 9/17/1887, m. Rebecca Hand (not certain of last name) b. 2/3/1826 d. 1/31/1907. Both are buried at Bowerman (St. Paul) church in Enterline, Dauphin Cty., PA. John was a farmer and lived in Halifax Twp of Dauphin Cty. In the 1850 Census he was in Halifax Twp, wife "Margaret" and daughter Elizabeth. In 1860 Census his name was spelled Riegel, wife Rebecca, Elizabeth b. 1850, Nathan 1852, Aaron 1853, and Mary J. 1859.

My line is through Aaron, who moved to Campbelltown and then to Royalton(Middletown) area. I have most of his family up to the present. Someone informed me of a Gertrude Reigle that they thought was a daughter, but I haven't verified this info.

I went to the courthouse yesterday and found a copy of John's farm being sold by his sons Nathan and Aaron after his death to pay his debts. The farm was bought by the highest bidder, Jeremiah Reigle. I don't know how he fits in yet.

I have searched most of the church records for surrounding counties for John's baptism or birth. Nothing has shown up yet. Nor any marriage records. Anything sound familiar? Contact me here or siouxmama@aol.com Thanks!
Am seeking any information about my great grandparents. GGF John Francis Davis born in Lykens, 2/8/1872, married to Clara (Rodda) Davis, born 1/1875. I have some information, but mostly that from obituaries, death certs & a few census records. John's father was Francis Davis, served in Civil War. They had three sons & one daughter (Roy, John, Edgar & Pauline). Have walked all over Lykens cemeteries & haven't found many leads. I believe John had two surviving sisters, one was Martha, according to his obit. They moved to Scranton when my grandfather (Edgar) was a young man (1015 Sterling Street). Any "new" cousins out there? Thank you!

Do any naturalization records from the 1900-1905 time period exist at the Dauphin County courthouse? Has anyone had luck locating naturalization papers for Dauphin County residents from around that time?

I am looking for information on a William C. Detweiler, who was a lawyer in Harrisburg, born 1857, son of John Shelley Detweiler and Eunice Parke. This is also a follow-up to my earlier post regarding the marriage of Sarah McConnell; I now believe she was married to William C. Detweiler between approximately 1880 and 1897, the last date being when she remarried, and Detweiler died after 1887. If anyone can provide me with information as to the exact date of his marriage or death, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Val

MARTIN family of tailors - Harrisburg 1800s

1850 Harrisburg census: MARTIN, William D. 30, tailor, PA; wife Eve (FAUST) 26 PA, sons John, 1 and Thomas, 5. This family remained in Harrisburg through 1880 (and added Catherine and Effia Debora). John Hancock MARTIN married Mary J. LINN (whose mother was a DEAN) and in the 1870 and 1880 Harrisburg censuses he is also listed as a tailor.

In the 1820 Harrisburg census there is a William MARTIN whom I imagine to be "mine". I would be pleased to find any information about this family of tailors - an ad would be wonderful! - just any clue at all about MARTIN, FAUST, LINN or DEAN families would be welcomed.

One is labeled Edwina Good, age 17, 1936 Class, and the other John Harris High School, June 1939. Both were from Fasnacht Studio, Harrisburg. As far as I know they are not related to my family. Does anyone know any thing more about these girls? Perhaps a year book check would help? Thanks for any clue. Lois Marbert

Hello All

I seek a Philadelphian's aid in obtaining a copy of a marriage record for me. I will gladly reimburse you any copy/record fees. I am seeking the marriage record of Sonia Faikes and Louis Fleischer who married in Harrisburg-PA on 5-6-1913. Louis Fleischer was a photographer. I am hoping to confirm that Sonia's maiden name was indeed Faikes. It could also have been listed as Frankel, since these two families were mixed together, but i am really hoping for it to be Faikes.

All help is appreciated.

Sarah

Any historical, ethnic, Religious information or geographical distribution would be most appreciated. I am British.

Michael Hoerner married Christina Stoever

I am looking for John or Johann Stoever's will from 1823. I believe this was then Union County. His daughter Christina Stoever married a Michael Harner or Hoerner in 1802. I have heard that this will contains the grandchildren's names. Does anyone know if wills from that time period exist. Do marriage records from the Lutheran Church there exist for 1802. Johann Stoever is supposed to be buried in a Lutheran Chruch yard in Selinsgrove with his wife Anna or Angenes in what is now Snyder County. Christina (Stoever) Hoerner died in Upper Paxton. Michael Hoerner's brothe in law was a Shaefer.

Seeking "Church Advocate" newspaper archives

I am seeking archived "Church Advocate" newspapers. The "Church Advocate" was a Civil War newspaper printed in Harrisburg and often used to convey messages and stories to the folks back home.

Specifically, I am seeking two letters written by Josephus C. Collins (Co. F, 208th PVI) printed on December 8, 1864, and March 23, 1865.

Any non-internet sources of information about individual soldiers of the 208th would be appreciatd.
Thanks,

Joe Nihen
morse73@ptd.net
