John McDevitt, aged 25, living at # 1211 Newkirk St, was arrested yesterday by officers of the Eleventh District, charged with brutally assaulting his wife, Sarah. He was given a hearing before Magistrate Lloyd at which it was alleged that the wife was so badly injured that she is not expected to recover. McDevitt was then held for a further hearing on Monday, bail being fixed at $1,000.
