William Landefeld Chambers, PHD William Landefeld Chambers, PHD was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on March 21st 1929 to the late William Landefeld and the late Helen Jean Decker Chambers died peacefully on February 13th at home in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Heavy snowstorms prevented the family from gathering at the time of his death so a Celebration of his Life was held yesterday, April 21, 2007, at the Katherine Abbott Park in the city of Mahtomedi, Minnesota. Many tributes to Bill have been sent to the family but perhaps the most accurate one would be “there was nobody like Bill. He really added compassion to the work place and he was a pile of fun at a party. If it was said that he danced every moment of his life, it’d be true. He’d tell you, however, that he was skiing.” Bill graduated from Strong Vincent High School, attended Allegheny College, Gannon College and graduated from Gettysburg College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He married Jean of Gettysburg, Pa. and continued his education at Penn State University under the guidance of Dr. Mary Willard until he earned a Doctorate of Chemistry in 1960. He then joined the 3M Co. in St. Paul Minnesota and worked there until his retirement in 1995. He was responsible for a number of patents on popular 3 M products. Bill was a loyal Penn State fan and season ticket holder and traveled there a number of times each football season. His brother-in-law, John, with whom he had a strong kinship through their mutual affection for Penn State, respect for Joe Paterno and loyalty to the sports program, particularly, will miss him. Bill is survived by sons, Bill (Jean) of Havertown, Pa., Jim (Lisa) of Richfield. Minn., Dave (Candy) of Payson, Arizona and daughter Bonnie (Chuck) Frieler of Minnetrista, Minn., daughter in law Chris Chambers of White Bear Lake, Minn. and his former wife, Jean, of White Bear Lake, Minn. Grandchildren â€" Geoff, Aimee, Liz of White Bear Lake, Angela and Michael of Richfield, Minn. Carolyn and Gale of Havertown, Pa., Ben of Payson Arizona, and Madison of Minnetrista. Bill is also survived by three great grandchildren, two sisters, Jean (John) Lloyd of Jamestown, N.Y. and Susan (Jack) McAllister of Erie, cousins Jan (the late Dr. Bill) Underhill of Erie, Pa. and Fort Pierce, Fla. Dr. Barbara Chambers of Mentor, Ohio and Wesleyville, Pa., Tom, Tim, Jim, Chris, Margaret and Maria Finegan and their mother Anna Chambers Finegan (the late Tom) of Erie. Bill is further survived by a brother, Bob, of Erie and three nephews and five nieces. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved father who adopted him in 1939, Robert C. Chambers (Pops), who died in 1984, his mother who died in 2005 and his son, Jerry who died in 2003. Local arrangements were handled by Burton Funeral Home and crematory Inc. 602 West 10th Street
