Jane was an avid researcher with King family roots (ggrandaughter of Samuel Clark King). It is unusual to see an 87 year old with computer skills. I will miss her kind emails. Her father was Jack Melvin Lewis , son of Phoebe Jane (Jennie) KIng married to John L. Lewis of Aleppo Township.

Edith Jane Givens, 87, passed away April 24, 2003 in Oklahoma City. She was born on July 29, 1915 in New Dover, Ohio to Jack and Grayce Lewis, 'Jane' was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Worsham. Survivors include nephew, Jim White; niece, Jacqueline Penn; great-nephew, Scott Penn; great-nieces, Cindy Williams & Page Hedley; brother-in-law, Robert Givens & his wife, Ida; sister-inlaw Joyce Gregston & her husband, Guy. 'Jane' was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to garden. She was devoted to her family and liked to use the computer for her family geneology research. She was a gracious & accomplished hostess & loved to entertain. The family would like to thank Mercy Hospital for their care of 'Jane'. There will be a funeral service on Monday, April 28, 2003 at 10:00 AM, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Old Hickory Inn cook for 30 years
Mabel Ruth Engel, 64, of Main Street, Hickory, died Sunday, December 24, 2000, in Washington Hospital.

She was born December 18, 1936, in Aleppo, a daughter of the late Henry Evans and Mary Elizabeth Lewis Riggle.

Mrs. Engel was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Mt. Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department in Hickory.

She enjoyed playing bingo and traveling.

For more than 30 years, she was a cook at Old Hickory Inn in Hickory.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Maga of Southview; a son, Ronald Braddock of Zolfo Springs, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Karen O'Leary of Washington and Susan Willis of Danville, Va.; a stepson, John Engel of Claysville; a sister, Wilma St. John of Millersburg, Ohio; four grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are her husband, Herman J. Engel, who died in 1986; two brothers, Andy Riggle and Henry Evans Riggle Jr.; and two sisters, Betty Tedrow and Helen Nicholson.
