Dear Scott,

I may have information on your Numer/Goodman family.

I have been researching the Rupert/Ruppert line and found information on the
Numers, too. Ruperts came from Berks County, Rockland Township near
Philadelphia. I followed Johan Adam Rupert as he removed west across PA
through the census and church records. I found the Numer name appearing
often in this search. I believe that Johan Adam Rupert and the Johannes
Numer were best friends as the Numers and Ruperts appear as sponsors for
baptism. Maria Faust b 26 March 1813, bp 21 April 1815, p Phillip Faust
(probably brother to Johann Adam's first wife Katherine Foust), Elizabeth
Ruppert (probably sister of Johan Adam Ruppert) sponsor Johann Niemmer, w.
Elizabeth.

I have baptism records from the collection of the Cumberland County
Historical Society from the records of Memorial Lutheran Church,
Shippensburg, PA. 1775-1847 of the baptisms of:
Maria Niemmer, father Johann, w. Elizabeth b 26 March 1833, bp. 7 May
1815. Witnesses Johann Phillip Faust and Elizabeth Ruppert (probably the
sister to my Johann Adam Ruppert).
William, p. Johannes Nummer, w. Elizabeth.b 8 January, 1830, bp. 8
August, 1830, parents sponsors.
Adam Christopher, p Johann Nummer, w. Elizabeth, sponsor parents, b 15
January 1825, bp 13 March 1825.
William, p Johannes Nummer, w. Elisabeth, b 8 January 1830, bp 8
August1830 sponsors parents.
Jacob Friedrich, p Johannes Nummer, w. Elizabeth, b 22 May 1815, bp 2
July, 1815 parents sponsors.
Johannes Nummer, p Johannes Nummer, w. Elizabeth, parents sponsors, b 15
June,1817, bp 19 October, 1917
George Nummer, p Johannes Nummer, w. Elizabeth, sponsor parents, b 15
November 1819, bp 30 April 1820
Elizabeth Nummer, p John Nummer, w. Elizabeth, sponsor parents, b. 17
June 1822, bp 28 September, 1822

This baptism information is not exhaustive as I was looking for
Rupert/Rupperts and happened on the Numers too. You might contact the
Historical Society of Cumberland County. They have an outstanding index of
church records and could most likely find more for you. I visited over
Christmas and almost passed out when I found the baptismal records of my
ancestor that I needed to make the link between the Ruperts in Huntingdon
and the Rupperts in Berks County.

You also might want to check with the Historical Society of Berks County for
more records. Chances are they were from the same area as the Rupperts,
Fleetwood, Pa. They have a website with online ordering of records
available.

Johann Adam and first wife Katherine Foust lived in the area of Roxbury, a
stop on the route west over Blue Mountain. They had property in Franklin
and Cumberland Counties. Perhaps you will find more information there.

Numers owned land near the Ruperts in the area called Lick Ridges just
outside Huntingdon, PA. There is a road today called Numer Hollow. They
were probably members of Ardenheim Church, Huntingdon, which is at the end
of that road. Johan Adam Rupert (spelling changed) and his second wife Mary
Crouse Miller Rupert is buried in a long row with other Ruperts in the
oldest part of Goodman Cemetery, Huntingdon County. The next parallel row,
right next door, are all Numers. I have been very curious about this
relationship but have been working on other things. Maybe you are the one
to untangle it.

Also, the Goodmans are married into the Rupert line. Check Ancestry.Com for
Rupert tree by Kim Williams for more information.

Let me know if you need more information. I'd love to know what you find.

Sincerely,

Karen Rupert Reed
