I've traced back to an ancestor b. abt 1797 in PA. I've always relied almost entirely on the information within 1850 and later censuses so trying to trace back to the previous generation has been a huge challenge. After combing through countless between 1790 and 1840 looking for familiar ties, I *believe* that I've finally narrowed my PA search down to Donegal township, Lancaster county, PA. I'm guessing that the next step would be to try to locate exactly where in Donegal township my suspected ancestor was living (it may no longer be in Donegal as boundries change over the centuries). Would land titles give me this information or should I be looking for something else? I'm thinking that once I can pin point where they were living, I can try to search for church records (assuming that I can find a list of the churches in the area back then). I'm hoping that someone more experience at searching beyond 1850 will be kind enough to share with me what alternate sources of information might be available and where I might find them.
