Benjamin Artley was one of the founders of Williamsport, PA.He was born in Lycoming county..was a blacksmith in Newberry and moved to ANthony township..where he died. He married Annie Williamson...they had 8 children: John, James, Sylester, A.Anson; Catherine, who married Charles Johnes; Lydia, deceased; Amanda, deceased, and Matilda, who is the widow of Augustus A. Brown.. He married Catherine Hughes and had 3 children: Orlando, Frederick and Mary..They lived in Palmerton. A. Anson Artley went to Savannah, GA, in the late 1800 and started the Artley Construction Co. One of his sons, John Darvin Artley died in1913 trying to save a friend in the ocean in S.C. One of John Darwin's sister married the president of the New Jersey Zinc Co....Hardenberg..and they lived in the Dixie Cottage....This is my husband's family and we are told that Benjamin is a descended from the origin al Henry Erdle....however, we cannot find out who his parents were, etc. to be able to trace back....If anyone can found please answer for we are at a stand still....The Artley genealogies we have read to not have proof that his father was Abraham..Thank you!
