My line of Steinbacher came to America about 1839, according to the Obituary of Mrs. Mary C. MISHO (nee Steinbacher). Mary Carolina Steinbacher Misho was the daughter of Joseph John Steinbacher - his parents were Johannes Steinbacher and Maria Chauvin. Their sons were Joseph Johann S_, Johann Theodore S_, and the Rev. Nicholas Steinbacher. Rev. Nicholas Steinbacher was Catholic Priest of which much is written. Rev. Nicholas S_ worked a riding circuit around Reading up the Nippenose Valley. He founded several churches, including Imaaculate Conception at Bastress, PA, just southwest of Williamsport.
It is believed that Rev. Nicholas S_ came to America a few years before his brothers Joseph and John. I can find writings of Rev. Steinbacher in Goshenhoppen in 1833.
The Rev. died in Boston in 1862.
I have not sorted out all of the Steinbachers after 1860.
I am hoping that some one else has....Anybody out there?
