Surnames: Knappsnyder, Knopsnyder, Snyder
Just broke down my SNYDER brick wall !!!! The name is recorded as KNOBSNYDER in their marriage record! Located the marriage record of Joseph and Mary Snyder at the Northampton Co. Genealogical and Historical Society in the Record of First Presbyterian Church of Easton, Pennsylvania, 1811-1887, 1936.

Married on Jan, 5 1828, Joseph Knopsnyder and Mary Jacobi. Both of Lower Mount Bethel PA.

So Joseph Snyder’s name was Recorded as Knopsnyder when he was married. Next I found a birth record for him. The parents George and Rosina Knapfschnaider, child Joseph, born 10 Feb 1806, bp 21 Nov. sp: parents. The Parish records of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Easton, Pa.

The birth date is an exact match for the calculated birth date of Joseph Snyder from his grave stone. He is buried at Three Church Hill Cemetery, Lower Mount Bethel., Northampton Co., PA.

Other spelling for this name -- Knappsnyder. When and Why did they drop the KNAPP from the name? Is this a German or Holland Dutch name?
