YES....it was once known as Shamokin....I found the answer I was looking for ! Bucknell University professor Katherine Faull is translating the diaries of the Moravian Missionaries of Chief Shikellamy's SHAMOKIN from the original German text. "The old Indian town of SHAMOKIN is present-day SUNBURY, which in 1745 had more than 300 residents."
