In the 1790 Census of Northumberland County, Pa. there are three brothers listed: Joseph Maddin, Peter Maddocks b. 1760, and Richard Madocks. Correct spelling Mattocks. From Peter's Pension Abstract it states: he entered militia under Cap Vernon Cool & Col. Henry Antiz in the summer of 1775 to defend the position against the Hessians (?) about the Big Island in the Susquehanna River where Peter Mattocks resided at the time he entered the service. Can someone please tell me the name of the "Big Island" and where it 's located? His brother Richard Mattocks entered into the militia at Sunbury in Northumberland and then afterwards lived with his father in Lycoming Co., Pa. They were in Penn Twp. in 1780. Any help or direction on finding the parents of these three Mattocks brothers would be appreciated. They then moved to Fayette and Crawford Co., Pa. Where is the "Big Island", Any suggestions?
