Hi Cindi. I sure do appreciate any help you can provide. The surnames I am researching are
STANTON,
HINCHEY,
CAIN,
BRITT. Some of these family members married into
McGINLEY and
BURGE line. Those aren't my direct ancestors, so I am not really focusing on them in too much detail right now. They are all
Irish Catholic. I'm looking for burials between the years 1851-1951.
The Hincheys and
Cains lived in Centralia. I have been given some information from the headstones in the St. Ignatius cemetery, but not sure if I have them all, and am still working on some of the relationships. I was hoping the funeral records may provide some clues there.
One of the big ones is trying to find out the relationship of Martin
CAIN (1824?-1887?) to Terrence
CAIN (1833-1878). That would be a big help to understand their relationship.
I think the
Britts lived in Centralia too. Julia (
CAIN) Hinchey's parents were Terrence
CAIN (1833-1878) and Ellen Shine (1838-1912). Julia (1876-1956) married Joseph
HINCHEY (1875-1942). His parents were
Morgan HINCHEY and Catherine
BRITT.
Joseph
HINCHEY had a brother John (b. 1877) that married
Bridget McDonogh (b. 1876). I don't know how many other children
Morgan and Catherine had yet, or the death dates for
Morgan and Catherine.
I have found some of the
Cains and the Hincheys in the 1870 census, with the adults born in Ireland, so I figure they came over in the 1850s-1860s.
The
STANTON family is from Mt. Carmel. William
STANTON (1866?-1940?) was married to Mary (1870?-1940?) (don't know her maiden name yet). His mother Ellen
STANTON died around 1911-1915. She was born in 1837 in Ireland. She was a widow by the 1880 Mt. Carmel census. I think her husband (don't have first name) died in 1879. I don't know if any of these Stantons were related to the John
STANTON that was an undertaker in Mt. Carmel. I believe all of the Stantons were buried in or near Mt. Carmel. I couldn't find Ellen and her husband in the 1870 Mt. Carmel census.
In the 1870 census for Mt. Carmel I did find a Mary
STANTON born 1835 in Ireland, widow, and 3 children all born in Ireland: John b. 1856, Thomas b. 1858, and Mary b. 1862). Her husband must have died between 1862 and 1869. I can't figure out how these tie in to William.
The other family in the 1870 census is Patrick
STANTON b. 1825 in Ireland, married to Mary
STANTON b. 1830 Ireland. All of their children were born in PA: Thomas b. 1851, Margaret b. 1859, William b. 1861, Sarah b. 1863, Annie b. 1864, and
Catharine b. 1867. The child William in this family is definitely a different William because the mother's names are different. I can't figure out how these Stantons are related yet either. I think that this Patrick
STANTON was my William's uncle, and that the children of the widow Mary
STANTON are cousins to the children of Patrick and Mary, as well as cousins to my William.
Some Stantons appear to have come to the States around 1850, while others appear to have come after 1862. Information is still too sketchy.
I have been posting everywhere I can think of. I have been waiting since August for
STANTON Social Security records. I have received some information from the Diocese of Harrisburg for
CAIN and
HINCHEY, but nothing for
STANTON. They recommended I try
Ashland for
STANTON info.
It has been very challenging. So, any listings in that funeral book for any of these surnames has got to be a help one way or the other. Thanks again.
