In 1933, in Mt. Carmel, PA,, Auddress Elizabeth Colahan married Reuben Leiby. They had 18 or more children over the years from 1934 through the 1960s. Today, we know of 12 children, four of which are deceased.

The first child was born in Phila. Pa, but the other 9 children were born in the Mt. CArmel, Pa. area, Fountain Springs, Ashland area. The first set of children were taken away in or around 1946 and some lived in the Welfare Home in Northumberland Co, PA., Sunbury, PA. Alot of these brothers and sisters still live in the Danville, Mt. CArmel, Sunbury, Bloomsburg areas. There was an 11th child born in N.J. in 1947 and given aaway at birth. The couple then returned to Mt. Carmel, PA and had another family of five children. We know of the child from NJ, and two others from the Mt. Carmel area from this group. There are three out there from this group that we would like to find. The 15th child, a girl, relates that when she was adopted, there were two older boys in the home at the time. In time, these five children were given to the minister of a church, most likely either the Luthern Church in Mt. Carmel or a United Brethren Church. The parents then went to Pottstown, PA to work and gave another child away there at the Pottstown Hospital, and then there is one that was given away at the Episcopal Hospital in Phila., PA.

Going back, we are looking for the baby in the first group of 10. His name was William Leiby and he was taken from the steps of the Mt. Carmel Courthouse in 1946-47 at about 1 yr or less of age.

The mother was last seen pregnant in 1960 and there could be more brothers and sisters out there.

The last brother that found us did not know he was adopted until age 55!!

If you are searching for your family in this area, or have adopted a child from this area, please contact us. We would really like to find those that are still missing and make the family complete.

Any and all leads welcome!
