Raymond Scrivens, Sr., 76, of Athens, Pa. passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008 unexpectedly at the Robert Packer Hospital. He was born on August 5, 1931 in Sayre, PA, son of the late Frank, Sr. and Jessie Betts Scrivens. Ray spent his early childhood in the New Era, PA area during his school years he attended Athens schools which he left early to join the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in August of 1953 after serving as a sergeant during the Korean War. After his discharge, he was employed with the Ingersoll Rand in Athens for a number of years and married the former Ida Gilbert in 1954. For over 45 years he has owned and operated a dairy farm in the Sheshequin area. Ray enjoyed the outdoors and spent many happy hours hunting, fishing and riding his 4-wheeler. Ray is predeceased by his sisters Betty Northrup and Janet Smith. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ida; his son Raymond and Donna Scrivens, Jr. of Athens, PA; his grandchildren Jesse Scrivens and fiancée Susan Schaefer Athens, PA and Arnold, MO, Jeremy Scrivens and special friend Tiffany Sewalt of Athens, PA; his siblings Frank and Donna Scrivens, Jr. of Waverly, N.Y. and Helen and Thomas Simonds of Sayre, PA; his step-mother, Ann Scrivens; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and family may call on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home with Rev. Benjamin Lentz, officiating Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Ulster Sheshequin Volunteer Ambulance, Ulster, PA 18850.
