Mildred R. Wolfe, 83, of Hobbie, died 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2005, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, a patient there for one week.
Mildred was born in Hobbie on September 11, 1921, a daughter of Casper G. and Alta Eulalia Good Travelpiece. She graduated from the former Nescopeck High School in 1938. She retired from RCA, Mountain Top, after many years of employment.
A lifelong member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Hobbie, she was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Hobbie/Dorrance Community Club, Berwick Chapter American Red Cross, and a 15-year volunteer for its bloodmobile. She was also a member of the Twilighters and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a 4H leader and a Berwick Retirement Village Volunteer. She and her late husband were one of the founders of Hobbie Volunteer Fire Co. She was presently a member of its Ladies Auxiliary. Mildred enjoyed quilting and needlework.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred H. Wolfe, on November 22, 1987; two daughters, Nancy E. Verchimak, on October 15, 1984; and Susan E. Wright, on October 1, 1993; and brother, Luther Travelpiece, on February 7, 1998.
She will be remembered by her daughters, Carol Zack and husband, Ronald; Linda Betz and husband, Leroy, both of Hobbie; Jean Bohinski and husband, Robert, Nanticoke; grandchildren, Cheryl Fischer and husband, Scott; Charlene Shaffer and husband, Michael; Denise Verchimak and husband, Lee McDonnell; Sky Wright and wife, Kathy; Karen Preston and husband, Paul; Brian Betz and wife, Denise; Jasen Bohinski and wife, Kim; Jeremy Betz; Joshua Bohinski; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Whitebread and husband, Raymond, Hobbie; Frances Hess and husband, Raymond, Berwick.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from St. Peter’s UCC, Hobbie, with Rev. Neil Partington, pastor of Emmanuel UCC, officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Silver Maple Cemetery, Hobbie. Calling hours will be tonight from 7 to 9 in Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck, or in the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday.
