John S. Forgotch, 88, of 321 W. Maple St., Mahanoy City, died Monday night at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Born in and a lifelong resident of Mahanoy City, he was a son of the late John and Anna Cech Forgotch. He attended Mahanoy City schools.
He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the European Theater of Operations and the Persian Gulf. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He worked as an independent coal miner and last worked for Alcoa Aluminum of Cressona until their closing.
He was member of Assumption BVM Church, Mahanoy City, and Mahanoy City American Legion.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents, were three brothers, Frank, Joseph and Vincent.
Surviving are his wife, the former Anna Holovich, to whom he would have been married 60 years this October; a daughter, Linda Breslin and her husband, Michael, Mahanoy City; a son, John A. and his wife, Peg, Ringtown; three brothers, Emil and George, both of Mahanoy City, and Steven, Lost Creek; a sister, Helen, wife of Raymond Dunsavage, Locust Valley; three grandchildren, Amy Jones, Allison Tambasco and Jackson Arms; a great-grandchild, Kailyn Jones; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral at 9:30 a.m. Friday from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home, Second and Pine streets, Mahanoy City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Assumption BVM Church with the Rev. Lawrence J. Bukaty as the celebrant. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Mahanoy Township. Contributions in his name to the Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
